I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure In his last season for wolves he was one of the highest in the league for assists, which says to me it’s in there and the evidence is that before his injury he was starting to show it.
I hope I don’t seem like I’m digging him out? That’s not my point. Yes he had great numbers. But he’s not quick, explosive or have a decent cross. He had Traore in front of him also, so he was left a lot of space and time as traore occupied 2/3 players.

No you didn’t at all ? agree to a degree but we also have players across the front that will pull defenders all over and create that space….. I hope!? I think he’s a better option than Emerson for the job.

No. I asked you who out of our rwbs we’re going to??
Right - the conversation started with someone saying "We need a Maddison/Eriksen type to whip balls in..."

So, if you bring one in - who are you replacing? Deki is the logical choice - except he can, in fact hit balls into the box. the other option is WB - hence, my question.

Everyone pining for a 10 to come in and play in the CAM of a 4231, will have to wait for Conte, and probably Paratici, to leave the club.

Oh definitely a better option. I just find it odd we seem to of had problems signing our new rwb but he’s looking like 3rd option. I’m all with signing players for the future but we need roaring rwb imo. Someone to get past kulu with pace.

In a game like today where Roma just sat behind the ball all 2nd half I’d probably have pulled Hojbjerg. Roma are basically like a stubborn bottom half of the table side but with a load of internationals and the best low block coach ever. Was difficult to read much into it because we looked sluggish but we probably could have thrown a more creative player in the middle.

That’s the thing with conversations I guess. They progress. My point was the rwb position. You’re correct in the formation issue tho. No point spending 60m for a bench option. Also the player would want out after 6 months. Zaniolo isn’t a player we need either tho. IMO. ?

I agree totally, but I think Conte would prefer a bulldozer (a la Zaniolo or Traore) than a locksmith, to open up a low block defence.

Therein lies the rub - we shouldn't spend £60m on a Maddison, to sit on the bench to wait for games like these. And Maddison does not defend well enough for Conte to start him in a CM2. Conte is looking for an option at RW - not CM.

So, most of the time you are taking Deki out, which is fine, he needs competition and rest - but you are not really adding a 10, with 3 other attacking players - it will be a like-for-like sub.

Depends how many teams line up that way.

if we’re chasing the game, which is the scenario some want a creative midfielder for, we won’t be playing with 2 defensive midfielders. This is the scenario Conte was bringing Winks on last season, so effectively whats being asked for is an upgrade on Winks. Bissouma is box to box, not a true creative mid, and no matter what we need a plan B. I’d worry if Conte doesn’t think so, and dare I say I’d start questioning him.

The other option I haven’t seen mentioned too much is getting added creativity by moving Deki behind the forwards and having Zaniolo play RWF. That could work, but I don’t think that’s a formation Contes tried this preseason.

Half the teams we play will set up defensively, when Kane gets rested we lose creativity, 5 substitutes this year and a hopefully long CL run. There will be plenty of game time for a player like Maddison.

Do you think? I think there are less defensive teams in the league than ever. Even the teams that came up want to try to play, I’m sure they’ll try to dig in when they need to but I don’t think they will be that suited to it.

Nah. I reckon 6/7 teams will see us as changing formation to pick up points. That’s 12/14 games we will have to unlock them. We struggle big time. And if Kane misses out we have zero creativity. Just hopeful 50 50 dink passes. Seen it too many times.

there are 10-12 teams who will come to us to play on the counter and more than half of them will do the same when we play them away.

Southampton will be interesting. Ralph mixes it up. If they or anyone else takes the lead against us, then look to hit us on the break, we'd also need a Maddison to score 2 or more to win the game. He can play either side of Kane, often tucked in, as well as centrally. Under Poch Eriksen would work the same space, and deliver into the box. With Kane and often Richarlie to aim at, whether from set pieces or open play, this could be a significant weapon.

Annoying we may be competing against Saudi money to land him late in the window, but I think he'd prefer London if they are persuaded to sell him.

We failed to score in 9 league games last term, just 3 of which were at home. So the low block was not that critical. Only the Palace (down to 10 men), United and Brentford games showed us really devoid of attacking ideas and chances. You could easily argue that conceding 10 less soft goals, like the one that cost us a point against Brighton is just as important as being a tad more creative. Once we get a lead we tend to win.

Nah. Deki is just as creative as Kane, albeit in a different way.

It’s a discussion forum. People are going to share their views and they often get repetitive.

It’s just how forums are.
Not when its the same damn opinion over and over again no matter how many times the opposite view is presented.

ITK is, Conte wants Zaniolo and thinks will fit what he is planning for the season.

Then everyone for the next two week..

"But.. but... what about the ACL.. I dont want that player anywhere near my squad..."

"Ooh.. conte also bought Morata and zappacosta.. Buy Maddison and ask Conte to deal with it"

Its annoying. And downright disrespectful to the ITKs. The concerns about injury and squad fit is automatically invalidated if Conte wants him in the team.
