I'm African and I'm not offended. In fact I tend to agree.
Maybe for the "PC brigade" that dude should have said "In my experience, I have not seen many good African keepers so I am not confident."
Would that work?
PS: I know nothing about Kameni.
African as in white South African or Black African?
In what way will that change the validity of my post?
In what way will that change the validity of my post?
And yet Gilberto has won a world cup with Brazil and yet he has looked awesome so far.........oh wait maybe not.
From your answer, you are a white South African, hence I dont see what you said as valid, when we are talking about African goalkeepers. No black African would write off their whole continents goalkeepers, based on them being of African descent.
So you don't see what I said as valid because of the colour of my skin and where I am from??
I think you just proved the point I was making. That is called racism when you decide on whether to take what someone says seriously enough based on there race.
And on your other point - English commentators, fans, etc have been saying for years that there are no good English goalkeepers so how do you know that no black African would write off their goalkeepers that are available to them?
Think about it.
Obviously its an issue, because you was not forthcoming in saying whether you was a Black african or White South African, I had to tell you (and how did I guess)! What jumped out at me was you saying you would rather not have an African goalkeeper, and validating it by saying that you are an African. A Black African would not write off the whole continent's goalkeepers. England is one country, you dont hear anyone saying that they dont want a European Goalkeeper.
Oh and by the way, on the racist bit. Fordy said Africans (not a race) and not blacks (race). Last I checked a third of that continent would be technically white and most North African keepers have been fairly shit.
Loco edited his post to be a lot nicer to me after I apologized to him. But he called me out for a rather stupid comment.
I don't like that we run around this site calling one another racist all the time, and I had hoped to be cheeky and provide something that kept it from being a finger pointing exercise (that didn't happen) but in the long run, went too far the other way and did make a general stereotype. So thanks for editing the comment to make me seem less like a jackass. And sorry for being too glib in my approach and saying a rather asinine thing.
Finally as a Canadian living in the US, I would like to finish this argument by saying, no matter how bad English, Brazilian or African keepers are in anyone's mind
they are not as bad as Canadian counterparts
DeadwoodDem has class,
PS: There's only one Lars Hirschfield!!..
Globalisation has eliminated mediatic borders. A child growing up in Africa or London is just as likely to idolise Gianluigi Buffon as he is Boruc.* The growth of the champion league and football on tv has given a generation of youngsters a new set of heroes who do not necessarily hail from the same continent.
It worked for Buffon, whose idol was a Black African Goal Keeper Thomas N'kono, the lengendary Cameroon Goalkeeper.
