Just wondering people's opinions, I thought he had a good game today but needs to maybe become more unpredictable and improve his passing/decision making. But his quality on the ball is outstanding and he's got a strong shot with his left foot which makes me think he could evolve into a top class player over time and with good coaching.

He's not Bale. Needs to learn to play well with others. Other than that I think he has obvious quality. Norwich were double marking him which says something. I think he has a future with us.

I think he can be a solid inverted winger but he must improve his decision making.

"Keep you head up and your eyes open." - that's what I'd tell him.

He's very good at carrying the ball, at distance too. Would prefer him on the left though where he can get around the back, behind the fullback instead of cutting in and shooting.

At the moment he needs to improve his teamwork whilst working on his technique in private

In other terms atm he is trying to be the Bale we sold at 24 when he needs to be the Bale we had at 21 and wasnt always taking a shot

Bale earned the right to be greedy. Townsend has a long way to go.

Thats what I mean he is trying to be Bale that got 19 goals, when really if he wants to be Bale, try to be the one that was a great team player first and had more assists than goals

Also I wonder what AVB thinks of Townsend, whether he is the one who told him to cut and take as many shots as possible, which was 9 today

Bags of talent and potential. If we signed him from abroad we would be really excited. Happy to watch him develop and believe he's worthy of his chance. I wish he had come on instead of Young for England in the week.

Totally agree. Hopefully the coaching staff can get the message across. Especially with lennon, lamela and chadli as competition or he wont be starting.

Andros Townsend has got lots of good natural attributes to be a top attacking player including :
  • Although a natural left footer, he's perfectly comfortable on the right.
  • Strong running and good acceleration.
  • Decent crossing from both left and right
  • Strong shot with both left and right feet - and scored a few headers in youth football
  • Not afraid of opponents tackles (legal or not) - and likely to win free kicks because of that
  • Happy to move into the centre to attack the goal (as he did against Tiblisi to score).
Played well at QPR in PL at the end of last season, after playing about 100 games in lower leagues.

However he's still refining how he plays and learning from his experience. IMO he'll be better by the end of the season (assuming the Spurs coaching team continue to show him where he's going wrong)..... and could continue to improve. How good can he become ? Nobody knows but the signs are very good - he's already shown he can play at PL standard, the only question is whether he can step up to being a top 4 PL regular or squad player

I really like Townsend and think he is going to become a very good player for us. I like that every time he gets the ball he wants to get forward, he is very attacking, love the way the ball sticks to his feet and the way he runs with it, always looks a real threat going forward and to be honest his shooting is not awful, hopefully he will learn when to pass the ball instead of trying to shoot from far out but I do not mind him having a go as it shows he is confident. I think he will become very good over time.

He was always talented, right from his debut some years ago.

His improvement has been massive, especially his ability to carry the ball but as others have said he needs to stop shooting all the time. It's like he's been mentored by Defoe.

He's skilful, quick, got a good shot and cross... He has the ingredients to be a top PL player.

He just needs to try less to fill Bale's boots and pass more. I'm not saying never shoot but I counted over half a dozen shots he took when a pass was the better option today.

I think I read recently that those were his instructions, that doesn't stop him from ignoring others in better positions.

I didn't like it when Bale did it either, if someone is better placed pick him out.

I draw this prediction from deep within my well of ignorance:

Lamela will prevent Townsend from becoming a regular for Spurs.
