Tottenham Hotspur are a stronger side on and off the ball with Bentancur in their line-up, so the Uruguayan’s return from injury is a big boost for Antonio Conte.

The 25-year-old featured for 75 minutes in his first appearance since the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Thursday night’s defeat at Manchester City.

He should start against Fulham at Craven Cottage, and his presence alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will be welcome as Spurs are likely to go up against a midfield trip of Joao Palhinha, Harrison Reed and Andreas Pereira.

I'd like to see Bissouma get a proper run beside Bentancur. Much as I like Hojbjerg, he's too slow on the ball, too slow across the ground and generally lacks fluency which slows everything down in midfield. Can't make up for that with pointing and shouting.

Hojbjerg has an eye for goal and will employ the dark arts more effectively than Bissouma.

Bissouma is different class on the ball and also has an eye for goal. We just haven't seen it yet.

We clearly haven't seen him at his best in a Spurs shirt, but that highlight reel doesn't do anything to give me confidence that he'll suddenly hit his stride this season. For his MOTM performance against us last spring, he was playing at the heart of a CM 3, not in a CM 2.

I’ve noticed that when anyone from inside the club talks of leadership in the dressing room, they only mention Kane and Loris. I thought PEH was going to be bringing these skills when he came in, but seemingly not.
I’d like to see Bissouma given a run at his expense too.
