We surely can’t be stupid enough to bid £50m for both of them and think that’s a sensible offer …. oh wait …

Yeah reckon that number is completely accurate. Nothing fabricated whatsoever.

How much is Barnes worth on his own? What’s his contract situation?

They’d turn down £50m for Maddison alone. So sounds like a typical levy offer.
The only actual text in the article I can see says “in excess of £50m” but that may be my bad attempts to read this on my phone.

You know what’s in excess of £50m … every single number greater than 50,000,000.

You’re correct.

From the article:

Tottenham have launched a joint bid for James Maddison and Harvey Barnes following Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League.

The pair are in demand after contributing 23 goals and 10 assists between them last term in a struggling team, with Newcastle also interested in both, and West Ham and Aston Villa keeping a close eye on Barnes.

But it is thought Spurs have made the first move, with the combined offer – believed to be in excess of £50million – set to be rejected by Leicester.

As i understand it, Leicester's owners don't want to invest in the club any more (they haven't done since the death of Vichai). They most likely want to sell up and rid themselves of what is now a liability. They've been relegated and the owners don't want to support the club's cashflow. They have two players who want to get away. In the absence of rival bids (Newcastle seemingly the only real other interest in JM and they clearly other other higher targets now), I can very much see the logic in putting in a low, early bid and hoping they are desperate enough to deal at that level.

People who think we should go straight in with 70m make me laugh. As do people say it's insulting and may bring an end to further negotiation.

Yes our bid is probably taking the mick a bit. But these 2 players I'd definitely like in our team, a creative AM and a succession plan to Son in Barnes.
If there's any truth in these 2, I'm all for it, but it's definitely going to cost more than 50 million, maybe send some deadwood their way too?

Would be nice if we could start looking at right wingers as we already have three players who can play LW and the only right winger at the club we are currently haggling with Juve for. That being said this story is probably mostly nonsense.

Got 2 years left so less urgency for Leicester to deal with than Maddison's contract.

Valuation circa £30m.

Would be a good option in rotation with Son out on the left and he gets his fair share of goals.
