I always had a lot of time for Winks cause of the way he broke through. Academy player, full of energy and potential - and those CL-matches against Real, etc. For many of the same reasons I really liked Mason. It´s probably the romantic in me; i really, really like the idea of players coming up throught the ranks and clearly are Spurs fans themselves. In the early stages of his senior career there cannot be much doubt there was a real potential for a very, very good player in him.

But as with Mason, Townsend, Onomah, KWP, Carroll, Livermore - the time comes when potential and romantic ideas have to be put aside for the greater good of the club. And for the player. Winks at this stage needs to play regular football. He´s absolutely good enough to play week in and week out for plenty of PL-teams. But not for an aspiring top 6 team. To be brutally honest: would he take a spot in a starting XI for any of the Manchester clubs, Liverpool, Chelsea or even Leicester? Should he then be for us?

I hope he goes where he gets to play, and that it is for a decent, solid club. And I really hope he sees this himself. Either in the PL or in Spain for one of the better sides outside the top 3 as I think he would really suit the Spanish league and type of football.

The romantic in my is sad he didn´t turn out to be our Xavi or Iniesta. And as others have mentioned: he never really and fully got back on track after those ankle problems and injuries. I´d wish him all the best in the future, and a long and solid career - but it it´s time tom move on and make space ofr the next up and coming generation of academy prospects: maybe one of them will prove to be the real deal.

I wouldn't blame him if he wanted to go elsewhere and enjoy the buzz of playing every week. He's good enough to play regularly in a fair few teams in the PL. But if he decided to stay and fight for a place, then hats off to him.

Always liked him but agree that it is time for him to move on. Think he could be a decent player for a smaller team but not someone who could offer us anything we need anymore. He probably wants regular football as well.

Can anyone enlighten me on the 'snitch' comment made by Hercules in the ITK thread. Whatever has happened has passed me by completely so ha e no idea what's gone on. Always thought that Winks was one of the loyal good guys but may be mistaken.

Think it was alluded to he was leaking dressing room stuff to the press under Mourinho.

Either way, wish him luck. He done well when he first came in, but never kicked on whether that was attitude or injuries it's a bit of a shame.

An ITK (Possibly Trix) said that he was leaking stories to the press about unrest in the dressing room under mourinho.

All those defending Winks and to an extent Dele, they both in the last couple of seasons have been given plenty minutes on the pitch to improve but none of them took it. Winks defenders keep harping on about one game in the CL. What was that 4-5 years ago? We need to move him on simple

Are many people defending him? Or just saying it’s a bit harsh to call him a shit ****.

Personally I want him gone as a priority but I’m not going to hate the guy.

Think he is kidding himself if he thinks he is going to force his way into the team next season. If Everton are showing an interest, he should be looking to grab the opportunity with both hands. With Skipp back, it is going to be even harder for him to break into the team and another season with us not doing much and next summer he may find his stock has dropped further and even the likes of Everton may not be interested so more than likely he'll be dropping to a team further down the league.

Hopefully his agent is in his ear advising him he really needs to move for the sake of his career.

Tottenham has been his whole life. Completely get why he’ll try and fight for it! Bet he’s hurting like hell right now at his dream just disappearing. He needs a move for his career probably won’t realise it until he starts playing somewhere again though.

Well quite. Think he’s been at the club since he was 6/7 years old. Going to be a pretty painful divorce.

Winks stated in well less than half the games last season
Dele made 7 starts last season in the league last season most of them in the tail end of the season

The midfield was dreadful last season and they certainly weren't the only players in that part of the side most of the season we were crying out for Dele - Winks is an easy scape goat but he doesn't hide which some of our midfielders do

I would suggest he's been at the club too long now and needs to 'cut the apron strings' in order to improve as a player. Experience of integrating into a new squad and having a different style of play under a different manager could be the making of him. Benitez and Everton could be the perfect next step in his career. I wish him well.

The final, final straw for me with Winks was that Villa home game last season. He spent the whole first half trying to laugh and joke with Grealish. But Grealish wasn't having any of it, playing quick free kicks while Winks was still try to smirk with him and do high 5s. Attitude so wrong, but fair to say he wasn't the only one that day.
Thought that was Dele sucking up to Grealish not Winks?

If Everton unfortunately don’t have a pot to piss in then we may have to loan him to them. Doesn’t help that we won’t get the money to invest ourselves.
