I find it really odd we haven’t just taken the number 8 off him.

I know he’s a spurs lad but he’s not been up to it for a couple of seasons now and Conte has pretty much ostracised him by not taking him on pre-season tour.

He probably won’t be named in our 25 man squad either, so what’s the point in him keeping the 8 only to maybe go transfer deadline day and Bissouma be stuck with 38 all season and 8 vacant?

Clubs seem to have gone a bit weird with shirt numbers as if someone isn’t in plans why would they keep a 1-11 shirt?

We did also take 10 off Adebayor when he was still with us and give it to Kane - I know he was divisive and not a spurs boy like Winks, but he was our top scorer for two seasons.

Apologies for boring squad number OCD rant lol, just as I said we’ve already been quite clear he’s not in first team plans with the pre-season snub, which was probably worse.

Perhaps because they didn't want to insult Harry Winks after a lifetime at the club and they'll leave it vacant after he's gone and present it to Bissouma next summer.

He's homegrown, not a chance this will happen if he stays

The only time Winks had looked half decent is in a very small percentage of games where we were winning and needed to keep the ball.

That way the sideways and backwards passing actually worked in our favour.

Maybe he was coached wrong at a really young age to be the English Xavi or something or maybe that Madrid game where he "bossed" the midfield got to his head because in reality he had a high pass percentage and accuracy because he recycled the ball backwards and sideways for 90 minutes.

As others have said he offers very little in every area. Jack of no trades master of none.

People slagged off Sissoko for years but I'd sooner rather a Sissoko In my team than Winks. You know what you're gonna get with Sissoko, technically awful on the ball but he'd run his ass of for the team and be a physical pain in the ass.

Winks offers not physical threat, can't dribble, passing is too safe, can't shoot, won't take on a man, won't make late runs into the box. Pointless player. Would happily take £15m for him.

Bissouma will likely get it this season. I guess the deadline for numbers is after the window is shut anyway. They're not going to leave it vacant, that's a bit overkill.

The deadline is after the window shuts, but I'm not sure he can change numbers if he has played a game in a different number

They’ve already kinda insulted him but leaving him out of preseason tour though?

And also presumably not naming him in 25 man squad?

Did they not change the rule after Ronaldo took 7 off Cavani? Also Townsend changed after the season started from number 17 to 10.

Went for agree but changed for winner, regardless whether you rate him or not a lifetime at your boyhood club should mean something, sums up the modern game i suppose.

Not being in the squad or going on tour is a management decision and he’s clearly for sale, stripping him of his shirt number whilst he’s still at the club is not something i’d personally be proud of.

The Winks argument is a simple one, he looks a good player in a cm 3 and a bang average one in a 2. His lack of physicality and failure to stop people running past him with the ball is less damaging in a 3 and also when playing in a 3 he can become the spare man and drop deep to receive the ball without making it easy for the opposition to mark all the other midfield options. His strength is that ability to keep the ball ticking.
Illl be happy he is gone but in the right system there is no doubt he’s a good player.

I think that's just football, if you aren't good enough you have to move on, it's not really an insult I don't think.

One of his biggest issues is if things weren’t going our way he goes into hiding. Won’t move into space and show for the ball.

rodrigo is such an upgrade, some of the second / third rates midfields that would dominate us when winks was playing was absolutely embarrassing.
As a spurs lad I’ll wish him well and hope he finds a rewarding career somewhere but it’s not going to be here.
