But I remember when we first started to free him off the left wing and he came in off the right, the Tottenham crowd used to sing: 'Gareth Bale, he plays on the left'.

'They didn't like the fact that we'd moved him or let him go free and play

This always gets brought up and is no less embarrasing now as it was at the time.

And what fucking idiot was it that listened to them and immediately put him back to the left wing ?

Not meaning to blow my trumpet but once I saw bale in full flow bombing down the left I knew we was more than a left back come wingback..he was an attacking nightmare with a sweet left foot....People can say what they want about Harry Redknapp (I've said by piece on him ) but credit must go to him for two things that he completely got right Bale and Danny Rose's positional changes.

The same feeling goes for Pochittinho and Dier. I think Poch has got that move right.

To be fair though Bale wasn't that hot for us on right.

He played better on left or the central role given to him by AVB, it's at Madrid he's flourished more on right side (mainly because Ronaldo has to play left side as he picks the team lol).

And I'd still play him on left cos I'm a philistine :couchpotato:

After Bale scored that hat-trick against Inter Milan, Redknapp said: "In the long term I eventually see Gareth dropping back and playing at left-back where he can be one of the best, if not the best." The man is full of it, and could've ruined Bale's career if he had it his way.

Lol one of the comments on the article.

That actually jogged my memory and remember Harry saying that, he is full of shit really.

I also remember the furious arguments on here as to whether Bale was a left back or winger! :playful:

In fact Martin Jol put Bale on the left wing immediately in his first game/start. He gave Wes Brown a torrid time from what I can remember.
