Terrible shame but for the best for all involved.

Kane needs and deserves to win trophies having done all he can for us. If he stays there is NO chance of that because we cannot afford a squad capable of supporting him.

Man city need Kane because they've had the wrong strikers for 4 seasons. Kane is probably Pep's ideal striker and would be the perfect false 9. City are an abhorration but they are going to be freakishly good to watch. Quite possibly up there with peak Barca.

Spurs need the money. We have a dog end of a squad with good players, many of whom have gone stale, don't fit, have passed their best. A rebuild of 160m is the minimum required to build a team capable of challenging for the cl.

As soon as we hired Paratici it was obvious that we'd sold Kane. Same as Baldini and Bale.

It's a shame but if we spend the money wisely it's the only thing to do.

Kane deserves to win trophies as much as Spurs deserve to win trophies.

He's had many opportunities to win multiple trophies with both Spurs and England. He has not turned up in any final or been a game winner.
He's going to City to have other players get him over the line on the big occasions, simple as.

A poster mentioned it previously, but you'd have more respect for him if he went to Man Utd and won with them and got them over the line.. rather than go to City who win multiple trophies every year as they have the world's best coach coupled with the world's best players and unlimited finances.

I certainly won't be wishing him the best if he goes. Just like I wouldn't wish well any other club/player we are trying to compete with!

Tottenham fan, not a Harry Kane fan.

Quite surprised at the amount of bitterness from Spurs fans over this, in what is quite a predictable story.

First and foremost Kane is a professional footballer and that trumps being a fan of the club.

I asked myself this question last season. "If I were Kane would I want to leave?"

The answer is a simple yes once I take my spurs fan hat off.

I don't want him to leave and 160m isn't going to make me feel any better.

And would it surprise me if there was in fact a 'gentleman's' agreement with Levy that he can leave? No it wouldn't one bit.

The Liverpool comparison is very important, I think, because we’ve seen them do it repeatedly in the last 10-15 years.

Fernando Torres, Luis Suarez, Coutinho, Raheem Sterling… all arguably Liverpool’s most important player at the moment they were sold, but they consistently reinvested wisely, and it paid off for them.

That’s not to say we should routinely sell our star players, but when you’ve got one pushing to leave for whom you can demand a huge fee, sometimes it’s better to just accept it and heavily reinvest.

Honestly guys, I wouldn’t get too wound up by this. We’ve known a huge article like this would be coming and it’s fortunate it has taken this long since the Euros. There will be many more too so we just need to strap in or ignore it all. No point letting the pricks get to you.

Fun day Friday ain't it ? Bright side. I'm relaxed after a one hour stroll down the country lanes.

I need my club more than any individual player. C'est la vie.

I will be very happy to see Harry Kane get the league medal he so richly deserves.

I'd already had myself in the following mind for a while:

- Harry's given us enough that he doesn't owe us really anything except not to demand to be sold cheap

- He deserves to win and the assessment that it won't happen here is really sad, but, probably justified?

- Less than 120m I'm pissed off
- 120m-150m fair enough
- 150m+ we've done well
well maybe go and support who ever Kane is playing for?

I was voting this as "winner" up until this point. If you win it at United you could at Spurs and that is what he should be pushing to do if you think he wants it to be some sort of personal achievement.

Going to city is what will enable him to be talked about as a great of the game as he will have the trophies to back up the personal stats. It is also the only option that I feel is not a kick in the teeth as they are a nothing club with untold cash. If he gets 400k a week then good for him, but like you, I hope he regrets this and we finish above them by some miracle.

Same as you, Spurs fan, not a Harry Kane fan. Ironically Pep called us the Harry Kane team. Now let's see how he gets on when he isn't one of their own.

Thing is with this breaking now, clubs know we have a big windfall coming, Atalanta etc can all say “actually we want some of that kane money” and change their prices
I totally agree, but i'm sure we had all this with Bale with newspapers saying he was gone etc.

and they need us. As much as there is friction between levy and the fans he will know this. It’s the end for him in a lot of ways if he lets Kane go. He will spin it that it was the player’s choice but the majority of fans now know that it is partly because of Levy that he wants to go. Just that extra bit of investment when we needed it and riding high could have gotten us over the line. He may not really care what the fans think but Levy will know (you’d hope) that Kane going is immeasurably detrimental to the club both on the field and off it.

fine margins in football/business these days. exactly what liverpool did with coutinhos&co.

sell asset worth 100mio for 150mio. buy assets worth 200mio for 150mio. make difference on & off the pitch.

We don't know the details of the deal. We don't know, and won't for some time, if this gamble pays off.

For £160m we'd be stupid not to sell. He's a great player but with that kind of money we can completely rebuild, and we would no longer have to revolve everything around 1 player, who misses large chunks of every season through injury anyway. We are going to have to live without him at some point, at least this way we can make the most of it. Having said that I think it's bollocks. I really can't see City more than doubling their transfer record after Pep has spent the whole summer saying they can't afford a striker.

We dont even know if there is a deal, no one has suggested City are prepared to pay £160m. And I am really hoping Levy is standing firm and if it is £160m its wired to the bank in 5 working days

I will be very pissed off to see Harry Kane get the league medal for any team other than Spurs.
Not sure if that makes me a bad person.
I'm a Spurs supporter, not a Harry Kane supporter.

100% Agree with your last sentiment - , Players come and go, clubs always there. Sad day, but honestly, we don;t look like competing with him - maybe an instant rebuild is what is needed.

I wont be pissed off to see him win something, especially at City as they would have just spunked the 150m+ elsewhere and won the league anyway.

I just wouldn't really care either way how successful he was, his personal achievements would no longer mean a lot to me - but it also wouldn't annoy me, or want him specifically not to - someone has to win stuff.

Be a bit different if he went abroad maybe ? I'd probably be interested on how he did at Juve, or PSG, but couldn't get behind him winning stuff in a competition we were in, however unlikely it is we were competing to win it.

Whoever it is, let’s buy a Captain or influencer for the team with the money.
Agree. This is now a huge reset if Harry is going and with Gollini coming in Lloris will be off next summer, let’s get a new captain/leader who can drive this team forward or give the armband to PEH.

huge factor is also whether is it cash in advance or installments.

cash flow is hugely underestimated.

There’s probably only 2 x clubs on the planet who could afford him at the moment due to the impact of Covid and that’s City and PSG. Attack isn’t really a problem for PSG with Neymar and Mbappe.

Bit of a shame but at some point we need to cash in as we can’t allow a £150m+ asset just run his contract down or end up retiring at the club. Now we have a DoF I have some confidence we won’t waste the money. I hope.

I mean it mainly paid off because they signed the best young manager in world football in Klopp who had transformed Dortmund into 2x title winners and CL finalists. I take your point though, although he can’t be replaced directly, £160m of rebuild money is not to be flinched at. Fabio could buy half of Serie A with that.

I really hope it doesn’t come to that though, especially when he can still be sold next year for £120m+ I imagine. I hope that ENIC/Lewis are fronting up a bit of money for signings in the hope that we make top 4 next season, or sell Kane for a windfall. The Romero deal is rumoured to be in instalments by Herc, and if it wasn’t we maybe wouldn’t have been able to do it - not sure that sounds like a team expecting £160m in cash in a few weeks.
