Winning a load of trophies over several decades is how Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U managed to still attract players.

Well , the selling club only looks at what we pay though not the trophies at buying club.
If not , why Tonali is in Newcastle ?

Very worried with our board blowing this Kane money. They have a history. If we don’t improve the defence and Richarlison doesn’t find some form, we are in trouble.

He gets us in CL next season and we’re able to shop at the big boy table. He leaves now and no one wants to join a team not in Europe.
Money talks, so we offered plauers enough they'd come regardless. We won't do that I'm just saying!

Two problems with that theory. Firstly Kane doesn't guarantee you CL football even when he's at his best, e.g last season. Secondly we've been in the CL plenty of times in the last 10 years or so, I don't recall us ever going anywhere near the big boys table when it comes to the transfer market.

Writings on the wall so yea after Hercs comment last night?

Thanks for everything H, I'm 40 years old and unfortunately have to accept I am unlikely to ever see a player as good as you play for us again. That's not being dramatic it's just how often does a non elite club get a truly world class player for a decade and in the best position possible as well.

Let’s be honest here Rob, we have never and probably never will shop at the big boy table. Look at our record transfer fee vs the 6 teams around us who we are competing with. It’s embarrassing to say the least.

Precisely this. I think since Kane broke through we have qualified for the Champions League about 60% of the time. And just one season out of four since Pochettino was sacked.

We also once went eighteen months without signing anyone during the time we were Champions League regulars.

I’m not saying keeping Kane won’t give us a better chance. But the idea it guarantees us Champions League football and we’ll use that to compete with the big boys is demonstrably false. Keeping Kane falls well short of any guarantees of that kind.

People do realise how much money we missed out on this year but dropping out of CL right? If we let Kane go on a free next year but he’s the difference between CL or not then that’s far better than getting £80m for him now. There’s a risk both ways but it’s not a clear cut financial decision.

Long term bets have us at around 61 points this season, finishing 7th. Other bookies have us at 20% chance of finishing TOP4. With high chance of TOP5 getting the CL and Kane staying, I think we have at most a 40% chance of getting to the CL next season. Football is a weak link sport and even if Kane is the best player in the league, we've still got enough weak links to drop out of the CL even with him staying.

Christ, Kane might actually think of staying had we pulled our finger out this window.

I mean look at the players we still got to shift.

Not one defender in two weeks before the season starts.

And where the fuck is the DoF that everyone appears to have forgotten about...
The DoF is Paratici off the record. It's been confirmed by Alasdair saying hes in a consultancy position. It sounds like Bayerns people coming over today is for final signature/hand shakes.

Look at the end of the day, Kane era was always going to end at some point. It's a shame it's earlier than we all would've like, but the train must go on.

With that being said, if we don't get at least a backup for richarlison i will be fuming. Because knowing our luck he will go down with an injury in the first match and then we gotta run an out of form Son at striker.

Honestly, if we are getting a talented youngster as backup that might be a year or two away from being the guy, im fine with it because I actually trust Paratici's scouting on young players so far for us.

Imagine Herc saying ‘bye bye’. It looked a bit like that.

Just got to grasp the nettle. Levy will get crucified if he tries to trouser any of the money. I'll be glad to put an end to the constant digging from the media.

Have a little faith. Hoddle, Waddle, Gazza, Ginola, King, Modric, Berba, Bale… tomorrow’s legends will be here soon enough.

As said mate I wasn't being dramatic as in we'll never see a good player play for us again etc I just can't see us ever having a proper world class talent for that long again. Imo he still doesn't get the recognition from some spurs fans and a lot of football fans that he should. Clubs outside the elite don't get to keep players like that for near decade.

Not getting into a Enic thread but over the last 4 years or so he (along with Son) gave us a reason to be hopeful and a reason to actually watch the game.
