Harry Redknapp caught up in London hotel blaze drama
Spurs manager Harry Redknapp was last night saved from a potentially life-threatening fire at the east London hotel responsible for Lasagne-gate, before sharing a joke with some of the firefighters who tackled the blaze.
Redknapp was among around 200 guests who were ushered out of the Marriot in Hertsmere Road - the hotel near Canary Wharf where several Spurs players got food poisoning before their controversial last-day defeat at West Ham in the 2006/07 season.
Flames broke out in the downstairs restaurant, prompting ten fire engines and more than 50 firefighters to be called to the scene just after 10.30pm.
It took more than four hours to put out the blaze at the 12-storey building, although Redknapp (pictured above) seemed to take the drama in good spirits.
Others were not so lucky, however, with several people treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics at the scene.
A spokesperson for the hotel said: 'We had to evacuate everyone from the restaurant and the rest of the hotel.
'Luckily everyone got out quickly and safely and no one was injured.'
She also confirmed the restaurant has been closed but that the rest of the hotel remains open.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
Redknapp is currently preparing his side for Saturday's crucial Premier League clash with Sam Allardyce's Blackburn Rovers at White Hart Lane.
