West Ham are to lodge a complaint against Fulham after Roy Hodgson fielded a weakened side in last weekend's defeat to Hull City.

Hodgson rested a number of key stars for the Cottagers against Hull as he prepared for Thursday's Europa League quarter-final tie with Wolfsburg.

The Tigers secured a 2-0 win at the KC Stadium to move level on points with West Ham with a game in hand.

Fulham boss Hodgson has defended his decision to rest players and was unfazed by talk that the club could find itself in trouble with the Premier League over his line-up.

Complaint

However, West Ham are now planning to make a formal complaint to the Premier League with relations between the two clubs still strained as Fulham are still suing West Ham for "merit money" lost in 2006/07 as a result of the Carlos Tevez affair.

"Roy Hodgson admitted on television that he had rested players because he had an important Europa League match coming up," a West Ham spokesman is quoted as saying in The Sun.

"He admitted fielding a weakened team. From our point of view that's awful and we are going to put in a complaint."

The spokesman added: "Fulham are suing us for £500,000. They may find West Ham suing them for £50million next season."

What the hell is merit money?

for where you finish in the league i think

considering hammers record of financial mismanagement & dodgy dealings with the argies, them suing anybody is fairly rich! next jordan will be accusing that other bint marsh of lacking taste

Teams do this all the time. Deal with it.

My thoughts exactly. May not be nice when it goes against you but thats the other team's choice.

:violin: Poor old West Ham. Such a nice show of double standards really doesn't help you sympathise with them does it?

Ahh cheers. That makes sense now as I didn't realise Fulham finished below them.

I knew this Mick McCarthy shit would open a can of worms.

Now whenever a team rests a star player there will be complaints.

I think it's crazy that managers are getting in trouble for fielding what ever team they see suitable. What happened to wolves getting fined was disgraceful the buck stops with the manager as he's the fucking manager and it's his head on the chopping block if it all goes tits up.

What's the point of having a squad if you're not allowed to use it?

should pool get sued everytime they rest Torres or Gerrard? or manure if they rest Rooney?

a manager should be allowed to field whatever team he wants while he's in charge

There's no such thing as a first 11 these days, so how someone defines it is beyond me.

It could very well go that way, Kendall. Now will be the dawn of freak 1 day injuries and things like 'stubbed toe' and 'precaution due to paper cut and risk of infection'. Hey, I've phoned in sick for less!

Er…

WEST HAM boss Alan Pardew was last night told he is free to field a weakened team against Portsmouth tomorrow - even if it costs relegation-threatened Birmingham and West Bromwich vital ground in the survival race.

Premier League officials admit they cannot prevent the Hammers resting key players ahead of Monday's FA Cup quarterfinal tie at Manchester City after Pardew voiced his worries about the situation.

His side face two games in just over 48 hours after securing a place in the last eight with an extra-time victory over Bolton on Wednesday and he warned: 'I'll do what is best for this club.' Birmingham chairman David Gold expressed his disquiet but admitted there was little his club could do.

He said: 'It's only a couple of months ago that the media, and indeed the rest of us, were claiming that clubs were putting out weak sides in the FA Cup and we were whingeing about that.

'If we were in their position, we would probably do the same.

We've got to come to terms with the reality of it, rather than call foul play.' Albion assistant boss Nigel Pearson, said: 'Alan intimated he was going to make changes, but I hope he puts out as strong a side as he can.'

Unless Pardew fields a team of academy players, he is unlikely to face sanctions and a Premier League spokesman said: 'Clearly, we live in an age where games come thick and fast, which is the reason clubs rotate squads.

'Alan Pardew is on record for saying he wants to do well in the FA Cup as well as challenge for a place in Europe. We don't think anyone deliberately sets out to lose any game.'

unless you make 8 or 9 changes from the previous game or 4 debutants, it's bullshit to talk about weakened sides. teams these days use a large squad, if you have 3 games in 8 days, you're gonna mix it up.

are west ham gonna take newcastle's place as the comedy 'big club' in the championship?

This is where those divs who run the Premier League opened up a can of worms with the Wolves situation (although they ignore Man Utd at Hull on the last day of last season!).
Modern squad's are so big that you cannot define a 'weakened' team.
By slapping Wolves on the wrist they've opened themselves up to other clubs using the same argument, therefore West Ham have a point and more importantly, precedent.
The FAPL should've left Wolves alone.

Premier League rules not FA rule, so it doesn't count for different competitions.
