If this is the one I'm thinking of, I had it on VHS. He talks about breakfast with Greaves and Hoddle having feet like hands. I must give it a look later.

Very interested in hearing him talking about the likes of Ditchburn and Burgess. I've recently finished reading The Biography of Tottenham Hotspur, and Inverting the Pyramid. These chaps get strong mentions. Ditchburn apparently began what the modern goalkeeper is now, reading the game and using distribution to become part of the team's attacking play.

So much of football's history and development converges and passes through Tottenham. We're a special club.

Thanks for posting that Lilbaz, I hadn't seen it before. Most enjoyable, and made moreso by featuring the late, great Brian Moore. Not only his narration but also some of his incomparable match commentary.

Venables knows his shit, so it's hard to disagree with him, but I'm going to on one point. I'm not having the great Dave Mackay at centre back when he played most, if not all, of his career with us in midfield. He gets in the team without question - in my view he's our greatest ever player - but in midfield, not at the back.
According to Wiki, Mackay did play as a sweeper a bit. So that's probably the reasoning that allows Venables to get his desired players in.

Yeah, El Tel is using a 4-3-3 and he's clear on his conviction that Hoddle needs to be there.

I had this VHS was a great insight into the history of the club for me as a youngster.

I always reflect on what a big club we were considered to be back then. In all the shops that would sell those VHS’s you would only ever see us, Utd, Arse, pool and Everton as we were considered the big 5!

I also had the VHS for season 1989/90 with linekers first season! Anybody else have this? Great season we finished 3rd and was London’s top side. Still in the house somewhere!!

I was too young to remember Glenn at Spurs, so I was quite surprised when the first thing out of Venables' mouth in that vid was the need to defend him

Surprised me that Glenn had critics

You know all that stuff people complain about Eriksen over? They did the same with Hoddle. If he'd been any kind of European nationality, he'd have had teams built around him. Instead he was English so we played Peter Reid.

Which makes it all the more perplexing that he ignored Le Tissier when he was England manager.

Reading that Inverting the Pyramid book, you can see that there's the deep seated suspicion of natural talent, if not coupled with "British grit and honour"... i.e. not getting stuck in, and indulging in fancy dan clever passing and flair... that's been around since the late 1890s.

Question to those whove been around since the 60s.

How good was Danny Blanchflower? Was he a mere inspirational captain who gets in most "greatest spurs players" list because he was the captain of our double winning team, or was he really that good?
