You don't understand that players are less likely to complain about not getting enough playing time at a club that is already winning trophies and getting paid 2-3 times more than our playres?

I also said I agree with you on improving our squad to challenge our starters. Maybe you need to get some sleep and re-read my post again tomorrow.
You are just creating a situation that doesnt exist at present and is unlikely to. This is why Poch is very selective about which players he gets for the club. No need for the patronising.

:woot: what an amazing set of options for the front 6 ...i dont remember ever seeing options like that !!!!

So with the other 13 spots, am i right in saying ....

- 3 keepers (one of which will likely be HG)
- 10 defenders - Toby, Foyth, Verts, Rose, Davies, Sessegnon, KWP, Aurier, Sanchez ...plus one more (Dier??? ...if so Wanyama can take his front 6 spot)

That gives us HG of - Rose, Davies, Sessegnon, KWP, Kane, Alli, Winks and Skipp + 3rd keeper --- (8 is all we need right?)
dont even need 8 just cant have more than 17 non-HG if I understand the rule correctly.

We likely won’t have 8 HG. Skipp wouldn’t count as he’s under 21, nor would Sess.

The key is to count your 17 foreign player spots first, then work backwards.

Hugo
Gazza
Aurier
Foyth
Toby
Sanchez
Jan
Dier
Wanyama
Ndombele
Sissoko
Eriksen
Lamela
Son
Moura
Janssen (Llorente)
Nkoudo (GLC)

HG
Davies
Winks
Dele
Kane
Rose (likely departing)

U21 don’t count
Skipp
CCV
Sess
Whiteman
Various

Really need to move Janssen and Nkoudo. GLC would take one of those spots. Llorente would take the other one. Any other foreign additions would depend on moving someone like Wanyama.

We’d have plenty of HG spots open. Perhaps we address that, though not pressing, if we secure GLC and Sess with Rose, Janssen and GKN departing.

I do tend to agree with you, but in big matches we usually find that managers will favour particular personnel. Also I can't see us spending circa £60m on someone and not starting them in the majority of games.
Need to change our thinking and behave like a big club which means you have top players on the bench. We have games every 3/4 days at some points of the season.. we have injuries and players going into red zones that need rest. We need a squad to challenge Man City, Liverpool etc and last season they had a much deeper squads than us...

Think Foyth also u21 for PL, not sure on CL rules. CCV also over 21 for this season.

Agree with the first part but Liverpool don’t really have a deeper squad they just didn’t get any notable injuries last season at all

Exactly. If you look at the appearances of Liverpool's best players compared to ours the difference is pretty stark:

VVD: 38
Mane: 35 (1)
Salah: 37 (1)
Allison: 38
Firmino: 31 (3)
Robertson: 36
TAA: 27 (2) - he was eased into the team due to his age

I didn't include any CMs as they rotated a lot, but they all had between 25-35 appearances each. Their only notable long term injuries were Gomez and the Ox, while Firmino was their only key player that missed more than a couple of games. Keita was out for a bit but they have good depth at CM and he wasn't favoured for much of the season anyway.

Us on the other hand:

Kane: 27 (1)
Son: 23 (8)
Eriksen: 30 (5)
Vertonghen: 22
Dele: 22 (3)
Lloris: 33
Toby: 33 (1)
Rose: 20 (6)
Winks: 17 (9)

Every single member of the 1st eleven had some kind of lay off and Verts and Dele missed almost half of the season. Winks, who is integral to our passing game, started less than half, and even Eriksen - who in my memory was an ever-present - didn't start 8 of our matches.

The whole depth think is exaggerated to no end. Liverpool are a great side with a few outstanding players, but their depth is pretty thin in forward areas and at fullback and they relied hugely on Van Dijk at times. Imagine if VVD had only made 22 appearances, Salah only started 23, Mane missed 10 games and Robertson missed 12. There's not a snowflake's chance in hell they'd have kept pace with City.

I have always maintained that our depth is actually pretty bloody good in most positions - hence we came 4th with so many lay offs and external factors working against us. Our real problem was that we didn't buy a CM for about 5 years and didn't replace Dembele. This left us horribly thin in one area - the centre of the park - forcing Poch to work some devil magic to turn Sissoko into a brilliant makeshift CM. Ndombele, Lo Celso, a fit Winks and an emergent Skipp will go a long way to fixing this, thank god.

Chance that Parrott takes llorente's spot for next season. He doesn't count due to his age, but it'll be a non-hG off the books if that does happen. Obviously it could go either way with Fernando and if he stays then good on him

If that fee is true Levy is on fire this window.

Betis: We want 88 million.

Levy: I'll give you 45.

Betis: lol no. how can we replace him?

Levy: give me one week *puts on sunglasses, cheap wig and false moustache*

Doing a shit spanish accent, Dani Leves assumes control of Betis' negotiating team and tricks Aulas into cutting 15 million off the price of a player for the 2nd time this window

Betis: wow thanks. but 88 minus 15 is still 73 and we need to pay 20% to PSG u prick.

Levy: ...but the less we pay you, the less you have to pay PSG.

Betis: OMG you're right! how about 30?

Levy: 45 will do :sneaky:

I have no facts to back this up but I'm gonna roll with it anyway...
I'm not sure that City do pay silly wages, didn't Pep baulk at signing Sanchez because his wage demands were too high? Sure I remember some kind of statement that Pep didn't want to set a precedent that forced them into a silly wage structure.

Plus, we're in the process of increasing our wage structure, so that we're competitive with all but the most ridiculous clubs.

I also think that clubs are beginning to wake up to the fact that signing a player on a massive wage, on a long deal, may not be the wisest of moves!
Ala Bale, Sanchez, Ozil...
