From what i've seen of Dos Santos he is not at a level where he will be in the 1st team as a starter next season but maybe used as a sub more often than not. Anyone think he will actually play a massive part in our season?

I have a feeling he has been bought to start games. I can't see a happy Dos Santos at our club if he's not starting games.

If he starts games then where is what i'm thinking? IF we played 4-4-2 then he wouldn't take Keane's role and he is not the type of player to fill in the Berbatov (hold up, main striker) role. And he wouldn't slot into either of the 4 midfield positions from what i've seen of him.

But maybe if we played 4-3-3 then he could play on the right/left of attack which would suit him more?

Yes! He was voted Second Best Player in the U17 World Cup losing only to (Man Utd's) Anderson, and Third Best Player in the U20 World Cup losing to Argentine sensation Sergio Aguero.

Gio has played in nearly every match for Barca this season. He could have sat on Barca's bench, or moved to Chavski or Inter Milan's bench. By most accounts, Juande has sweet-talked him to Spurs. I doubt Ramos' pitch was: "we have lovely, heated, comfy seats on the bench at Tottingham and you'll love the cockney banter from the crowd behind you". :)

Dos Santos is not just another talented youngster. He is one of the half-dozen most talented players of his age in the world. And because he can play on the right, on the left and centrally, I suspect he will play in almost every match for us next season, and may well start about half of our matches (incl UEFA & Carling Cup). If he adapts quickly to life in the EPL, he may even be a first team regular by season's end.

Well in that case Yanno i'm looking forward to next season even more now. If he is indeed that good then his link up play with Modric and Keane could be awesome. And thats forgetting any other quality signings we may make.

The only disappointing thing about the signing is that it means we definitely won't go for Ronaldinho. I know some people think he's past it, but he ain't. And if Man City genuinely are speaking with him, then we could too.

So, with GDS and Modric, i can't see us going for anyone like the goofy fuck now. Which is a pity, cos i like waking up to goddammotherfuckinghuuuuge signings ala Klinsmann.

dos Santos and Ronaldinho have played together at Barca, why not at Spurs?
In a 4-4-2 formation dos Santos would play as a wide MF while Dinho would play a striker, playing off Berba or another big striker.
Dinho won't come because Citeh are willing to pay him crazy money - Spurs are not.

He wasn't overly impressive for Barca last season, but Gio was only 18 then, and it's hard to think of any Barca players, apart from Iniesta, who actually had good seasons.

However, the best game I saw him play was the last of the season when he was an out-and-out CM (playing the Iniesta role). As well as excellent technique, you could see that Dos Santos has a football brain. Pass and move, pass and move, awareness of teammates, playing little passing triangles. He was sensational. And he scored a hattrick!

get rid of most of our previous squad, most of whom, apart from the obvious candidates, are pretty capable premier league squad members, then what? bring in a multitude of newcomers, some of whom might not immediately adapt. i think the way forward is to retain peqple like jenas, hudd, lennon, o hara, get rid of the ones like staltieri, lyp etc. bring in better players like dos santos modric etc because we desperately need those upgrades. but it is imperative we retain a premiership savvy core, if only as back ups.

Ramos on the other hand has explained his decision to sign the player and he reveals Dos Santos has a bright future ahead with Spurs.

“Yes, I believe that he will excel and become a greater player than what he is now,” said Ramos.

“He has plenty to look forward to and for us he is a brilliant signing as he has great qualities and he can adapt to play in many positions. Above all, he has superb technical abilities.

“He will definitely enrich this side as he offers something different especially when playing attacking football.

“His youth gives us the possibilities to see all his potential materialise into making him an excellent footballer.”

Can see him starting most home games except for maybe against the top 4. Don't think he'll be starting many away games in his first season though.

Keano - thanks for posting those interesting comments from Don Juande. Where are they from?

His brother is called Johny as well. Does that make him Johny 2 saints II? or Johny 3 saints?

 I expect his brother will take his mothers name if he comes to us, her name is Annuvva, so he'll be Annuvva Johny two Saints.:)

Believe me, he wont be missed by us. Hughes will get tired of him after a few games. Hes just gonna be there for the money and will just do as he wants. I am surprised if he will even live in Manchester:)
