Sad news.

For some reason I'd always had him down as having been some sort of flop at Liverpool? I never realised he won 4 trophies (5 including the Charity Shield) with them in 2001. Wow.

In my defence I was pretty young at the time, but I'm surprised he isn't spoken of more highly and more regularly in terms of Liverpool's history.

you wait until Wednesday where that’s all that will be talked about, YNWA and all the bollocks.

*Edit - didn’t mean that to come across so harshly. RIP sad news. Seem to remember him having heart problems whilst at Liverpool?

He had heart problems on and off over the years, I wonder if that’s what did for him. I remember him having time off from Liverpool.

Him and Roy Evans one of the more like able managers in Liverpool's history.

Read a biography on him and he made Liverpool relevant again*
He changed the club completely and laid all the foundations for the success for the managers since

He started off as joint manager with Evans, and I think it was Evans who tarnished his initial 'impression'. A bit like other managers in the past, he laid a lot of groundwork for the next manager who seemed to claim all the plaudits (Benitez).

He's done well, all things told, as I'm sure he had severe heart issues 10-15 years ago.

That's a real shame to hear. Came across as a gent and probably didn't get the plaudits he deserved outside of Liverpool.

The way Houllier hung out Ginola to dry was out of order. When his side had a few games to wrap it up.

RIP either way

So sad about that. Did a very decent job at Liverpool. Always came across as dignified.
