Reminds me of the Jon Stark comic series when I was a kid.

Jon Stark arrived on the football scene in the late 1970s, a prolific striker who played for numerous clubs in England and abroad on a nomadic career path motivated entirely by money. A self-styled ‘Matchwinner for Hire’, his terms of service were set out on his business card: ‘£1,000 per match plus £250 per goal, no payment for lost games.’ Playing for different clubs every week, wherever the promise of payment took him, Stark was the ultimate football mercenary. He was, of course, entirely fictional – a comic book character created against the backdrop of a real-life transfer revolution under the strapline: ‘Meet the Footballer of the Future…’
Stark first appeared in the debut issue of Scoop comic (15p every Thursday) in January 1978. Stone Orient were rock bottom of the second division after three consecutive defeats. A cup match against top-flight Belmoor saw the club turn to Stark, who told them, ‘Play me against Belmoor and I’ll guarantee you victory for £1,000 plus £250 for every goal I score. If we get beaten, you pay me nothing.’
Stark’s left foot strike and diving header saw Orient win 2-0. But the Orient manager wasn’t happy with Stark’s modus operandi, remarking, ‘He’s good alright, but I don’t like him or what he stands for.’ Stark wasn’t bothered: ‘Just give me my £1,500 and I’ll be on my way.’

Brilliant analogy!!
Forest are essentially looking at a very expensive season-long loan. Lingard obviously fancies his chances of getting another club to pay him top dollar next year. My concern if I were a Forest fan would be his commitment. If they're struggling, his mind will already be elsewhere and he certainly won't want to get injured and scupper his next move.
Besides the fact I think he's very over-rated and worth nowhere near the reputed wages, I just can't see this working.

Funny, as they were screaming for him to be in the England squad 10 months ago.

Kostic is great as a wing back. Not sure moyes is going into a 3 5 2
Yeah I was thinking the same. A huge part of why Kostic was so great for Frankfurt is because he basically just bombs forward and doesn't defend, which they get away with cos of the 3atb and Ndicka covering.

In a back 4 he could end up like Doherty under Jose and leave huge gaps which is very un-Moyes like.

Wonder if they see Cresswell as LCB these days rather than LB.

Real shame if Scamacca goes to West Ham, I wish we would get in there and try and take that deal ourselves tbh.

Scammaca and Kostic on top of Aguerd is amazing business from West Ham. I’d say they’re having a better window than us if the deals go through
Genuinely thought Aguerd was a misspelling of Aguero and thought hang on....

PL teams are going to get amazing players, that’s just the financial reality of our sport. Too much talent in Europe for even the likes of West Ham to mug up the chance of signing them.

7th best team in the best and richest league in the world. And a side that made a European semifinal last year. It shouldn't be a shock that some good players are willing to go there. Plus they play in London.

Zinchenkos a decent signing by Arsenal.
Think the amount of agrees and disagrees to this tells a story on it's own.

We're talking about City’s potato LB, who does a decent job in that position but nothing more. The X factor is that he plays as a CM and dominates weaker teams at international level, but he has never been allowed to play there in the PL.

If he's being signed as a LB it's a very meh signing. If he's signed as a CM all bets are off and it really can go either way. He might excel, he might completely fall through, and I'm not confident of predicting either scenario.

Lingard is a cracking signing for Forrest.

if you just look at the numbers across the year it’s worth it if they stay up. No transfer fee, the signing on bonus is probably in that high wage so spread across the year.

If they signed him for £5m and paid him £100k a week no one would bat an eye lid

Don't kill me but man oh man that sounds like the good ol poche days. Nothing wrong with it but at the end of the day that's .what I felt like we were always missing, some bite. Mourinho (I hated his tenure) did say one thing that was right "we were too nice" and that's honestly kind of what I see Arsenal like right now, Against us and Newcastle in intense environments they always folded. None of their players would really step up and grab the game by the scruff of it's neck and let's be honest I don't think Zinchenko or Jesus will give them that. They are building a great base to go on and challenge us for the next couple of years for top 4 but none of these signing are scaring me
I think we lacked a lot of great technicians under Poch. He wasn’t successful in identifying or signing these at all. We also lack technicians now.

I think h eis a good player and certainly not meh even at LB. I do think though, Arteta has got him to come in play midfield. I think Zinchenko is naturally a midfielder, but could be wrong. Id have taken him over Sess at LWB but that is just me and I know some wont agree but Sess is doing nothing for me.

£200k p/w looks perfectly justifiable on a spreadsheet. But his teammates will be on 10-20% of that.

So unless he’s absolutely by far their best player every single week, they’re risking disharmony, which they can’t have if they’re to stay up.

LINGARD IS costing them 10M for the year I think that's well worth it for them
If he puts up similar numbers to what he did at West Ham it’s a no brainier. Could well be the difference between 17th and 18th. The one year contract giver both the club and player the freedom to take the risk. If they go down they aren’t stuck with a big contract on their books, and he isn’t beholden to staying there. Cooper is a good manager so I’m looking forward to what Forest do this season.

Yeah I could see these guns for hire contracts being common in the future
