Just spotted a link to this on the BBC - transfer balances in last 10 years. Just want to point out it does not include sales of academy players. This is purely players bought and then transferred. Obviously the teams in profit are the small clubs that made a killing with great recruitment selling to the big clubs who buy at huge costs and don't look at making a profit.

No wonder Barcelona are in such a mess. Arsenal lost a fortune on Pepe, Ozil and Auba - lovely.

Does this include players still at the club?

For example, we still have 60m richarlison on our books, so we technically haven't lost 60m.

If Phillips is starting games for England we have no chance of winning the tournament, imho. Because it means Southgate relentlessly pursuing his double pivot and defensive strategy rather than utilising our wealth of attacking talent.
Agreed, midfield 3 of Rice, Bellingham and Maddison has to be the right option, with Gallagher and TAA as rotation players. Best case for Phillips is surely as an occasional 70+ minute sub.

Newcastle really do seem in the mud a little bit right now with FFP. I understand the situation, but I never would have envisaged seeing Howe speak so openly about these particular players possibly leaving.

Manager is being undermined and will be sacked this summer as a consequence

Who'll be next in line for the Barcodes? Can't see them being stupid enough to go for Jose. Massive (and probably unsuccessful) bid for Xabi Alonso I'd imagine. Or maybe Tuchel once he gets the boot from Bayern which is probably inevitable.

Good to see Eddie Howe decided not to rock the boat about any of the issues with the Saudi leadership until it affected the person most important to him: Edward Howe. Prick.

If we had top centre backs, fair enough, but we don’t . As it stands it will prob be Stones and Maguire.
If he is going to change he needs to give Marc Guehi 2 starts against Brazil and Belgium in March.
More likely to play Foden than Maddison I would think.

So I kind of agree, although on paper Tomori and Stones are both playing at a very high level right now and Guehi is playing well. Not that I'm sure Southgate will be creative enough to look at partnerships other than Stones and Maguire, but he certainly should.

We're then very stacked for quality options at RB and LB choices aren't terrible.

But the main point is that we if we try and play a less attacking game with an average defence then we'll come unstuck against tough opposition.

We'd be better off going into games knowing that we might ship a goal or two but having the right attacking line-up to put 3+ goals past every team we play.

Benrahma off to Lyon maybe and Fornals to Betis. Might leave them very short for the second half of the season if they don't get anyone else in.

I have a lot of respect for the club but Nottingham Forest deserve everything they have coming to them.

Not sure he's what they need in a relegation scrap, but a huge talent.

Think perhaps PL may be too big a jump for his development.

Also unusual for Sporting to look to cash in early on.

Would have liked him on our book, but can see why not with our stockpile of young strikers and need or the finished article.

It is a loan with an option, they’re hardly burdening themselves with a whopping fee if they end up going down.

It's more the message it sends, though.

Welp we bought 65 players over three windows and breached FFP and might face a points deduction but so many of them were duds that we need another five in.

Doesn't scream good management at any level.

West Ham selling a couple player seems mental unless they have 2/3 transfers planned. Even still, that squad looked depleted before today.
