I just don't know where he would go. He'd be crazy to go to Man Utd. The only place I can see him at is City if they sell Sane. Would Liverpool go for him?

I suspect all three could use a Gareth Bale for lots of different reasons. City and United seem to be the only viable options for him because of the financials involved. Personally, I think if Bale still has an appetite to play and wants to have a decent three or so years in a top league, he's going to have to take a hit on wages.

Could we not get creative with the financials if we're assuming Eriksen is off to Madrid? We could take say £15-20m off the asking price in order that they subsidize Bale's wages or pay him off, then pay him a more modest wage ourselves. I'm sure there's a deal to be done if all parties want it to happen.

Absolutely, if we want GB and they want CE then there has to be a deal which can be done to suit everyone.

Doesn't often work like that with Madrid though!

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/f...le-exclusive-interview-Real-Madrid-Spurs.html

‘It’s very interesting watching as an outsider,’ he says. ‘You find you’re more into it when you’re not playing in the league. You’re only concentrating on your team then.’
So no more partisan loyalties?
‘Of course there are,’ he says, suddenly deadly serious. ‘I still want Arsenal to lose and Spurs to win.’

Thanks. Reading further:

‘If it wasn’t Real Madrid, it would have been very, very difficult to ever leave,’ he says. ‘I hope the fans have forgiven me now. It was incredible to see all the messages of support from Tottenham fans after the Champions League final. So many people said how proud they were of me, and that felt amazing. I loved my time at Tottenham and the fans were always incredible to me. I think they understood that the opportunity to join Real Madrid was a once-in-a lifetime chance and at the time I was playing well and I wanted to test myself. Without Real Madrid, I would have loved to still be there playing for Spurs. But winning the Champions League shows exactly why I wanted to make the move.’

Wonder how big a pull (if any) the thought of coming back and helping us take that next step would be for him.

He's won everything there is to win in Spain, come back and help us win something, and play for fans who fkn adore you.

I question how much he actually wants to leave / how on earth the club could do the finances / if we could get more then 25 games of him fit a season. Aside from those three things here is hoping !
Seriously though - the best in a Spurs shirt I have ever seen and I loved him dearly but this feels so “unTottenham”.

Sorry but how many times people say he is injured is embarrassingly misinformed. Guy was available for 90% of Madrid games and featured in 40 odd of 52 I believe. Not someone who isn't available often.

As for the fees there will be a deal to be done if he wishes to come back as Levy will run them ragged. Guy is basically being pushed out.

Sorry for pulling your post up but it's quite annoying.

I expect of you want 'creative financials' we've got one of the best in the job in Levy

Don't really watch much Spanish football, but looking at his goals and his assists he has no exactly done bad. I guess the criticism comes due to his transfer fee, but he has turned up for them in big games.

For me his wages are a big issue, but he is the kind of player who can completely change a game and has both the physical and technical attributes to do it. With Kane and Eriksen way off their best in the final, a Bale type player would have been rather handy!

Messi and Ronaldo have really warped expectations at Madrid and Barcelona. Bale has been excellent overall for RM and a huge contributor in finals. I don't think his injury record has helped however, or his reserved nature.

Surely Zidane just wants shot of him, though. Failing to find a new club for him and having one of the world's most expensive players, who has happened to turn in talismanic match-winning performances in multiple finals, languishing in the reserves would be a massive distraction for Madrid next season. It would provide constant tabloid fodder, and there would be questions asked of the manager any time they didn't get the desired result.

I'm certain that Zidane will want him out of the club. If they can't find a buyer, which they very well may not be able to do given his age and contract, I'm guessing they will eventually buckle and be willing to do a subsidized loan deal. This is one instance in which I'm guessing they will be willing to play ball. We'll just have to wait it out and see if it falls in our laps as the transfer window progresses.

Not to mention what it will be like for Bale. He'll be a target for God only knows what sort of abuse. I think he might have to drop his demands a bit as well (not that he's under any obligation to do so) but it would make things a bit easier all round. I know people will want RM to get bitch slapped by the whole process but I also think Bale needs to get away from that sort of poison.

I'd be surprised if he budged at all on what he's contractually entitled to. He's in an extremely strong position given that the manager will want shot of him no matter the cost, so he'll probably be able to get the move without losing out on any money. If there is one place where he might be willing to negotiate it would be over his image rights. I'd be very surprised if he were still at Madrid next season, the big question is whether he will push to come to us over the other clubs that are in the frame.

I would love to see Bale back for us plus i think his experience in CL with Real means he could bring something to help mentor the younger players.

That said....

Bale coming to the PL with his wages strikes me as having Ed "I have more money than common sense" Woodward making a massively overpriced move him him written all over it. United don't need Bale, OGS may not even want Bale and i would still see Woodward dropping £70m-£80m just so Untied get a big signing for the summer.

The thing is, he is a special player, but how often does he put it in? Over in the Eriksen thread lots of people are selling him off now and accusing him of being inconsistent. Well I’ve watched lots of games where Bale has looked disinterested and lazy. Yes he scored cl final goals but he too is very inconsistent. He’s nothing like the guy we sold. He does look better for wales but he will always stand out for them. I thought he would really push on last season with Ronaldo gone and potentially being the main man but it didn’t happen. Just putting it out there really. Would still love him back.

Perhaps he looks disinterested because of the way he has been treated by fans, manager and the club?

I may get hammered but I agree with you. I recall that the season before he left, he was almost non existent up until around December, and I didn’t get it given his talent. The second half of that season he was simply unplayable. Dynamic, powerful and clinical. I loved Bale in that final 5 months.

You really have to ask why he’s so unpopular at RM. Maybe it is the inconsistency which, unless we watch all their games, we wouldn’t know about.

So for me it’s a thanks for some great memories and wearing our shirt with pride, but no thanks now. There are better ways to spend our very limited transfer fund.
