Bale is hardly the Galactico type. I think he would knuckle down and adapt to a Poch system. It’s more a question of whether the physicality of the modern gam, especially the pace of the PL, has passed him by. His body is a lot more fragile. Christ he was amazing in that last season with us; would he ever hit those heights again?

I don’t think he would hit those heights, but that would be mostly to do with him not having to carry the team, though I’m sure there would be games where he single handedly wins it for us again. If he were to come to us, imo, he would still add a huge amount to our attacking game - both in counter-attacking and breaking teams down who have parked the bus.

It's either us or Real imo. United I'm not even sure it's a case of whether he'd want to go there, I just don't think after Sanchez and his wages they want to get burnt again. Only way that possibly happens is if its a Bale + cash deal for Pogba, which they've supposedly rejected on multiple occasions. With Asensio out for the season after the knee injury last night, I would say him staying is the most likely option, but you'd have to think bridges are burnt at this point. All really comes down to whether El Bald One would be willing to drop a massive amount of cash on a player with pretty much no resell value.

Very few players have or will in one season to be fair. He could have had a PL goal of the season competition with only him in it.

Even a Bale at 70% of that is a difference maker.

If there is any chance to make the financials work to get him we must deal. We can compare the stats of some of our current players and they may come out favourably, but the reality is in the biggest game for Spurs in a generation our attacking players didn’t turn up.

There are mitigating circumstances for sure and we do have some great players, but Bale is a match winner who delivers on the biggest of occasions.

If it’s feasible to sign him we must. It’s a no brainer.

IF Bale comes home, I think Eriksen is off.

Theoretically our first month match day squad can look like

Lloris
Foyth Toby Jan Davies
Sissoko Winks Ndombele
Son Kane Dele

Bench (from): Gaza Sanchez Aurier Sessegnon KWP Dier Lo Celso Lamela Lucas Bale

And then morph to

Lloris
Foyth Toby Jan Sessegnon
Ndombele Winks Lo Celso
Bale Kane Son

Bench: Gaza Sanchez Aurier Dier Lamela Lucas Dele

I'll skip the reality pills for a moment, even if the current mood is more poisitve than negative.

The simple fact is that Gareth Bale is STILL a superstar of the footballing world. Messi is 32! Yes I know Bale more about physique and pace, but still, he is a gifted footballer that, so just turned 30 should not be an issue. Apart from at RM, GB is well loved and seen as still a top top player.

That is the kind of signal we want to send, is it not? Young, up and coming, diamond in the rough... we do that too and I want us to still do that, but if we truly are changing and want the world and all of its players to truly take note, then it's also pulling off signings like this. Surely?

ON TOP OF everything else (not instead of).

Who is to say that the very idea of signing Bale is not giving Eriksen reaosn to think he might prefer to be with us, Toby trhe same. Yes there are other factors too and of course the ITK will return me to my padded cell and hand me my medication later, but for now....

What if this isn't so unrealistic?

"Oh but the money"... that's for DL to decide. I think it's fair to say though that if there is one thing we know for sure, DL does not throw money away. If we continue to track Bale and make moves, and do the rest of the aformentioned business, it's because DL has carefully counted them beans.

There can be no doubt about his talent. If the financials were right ie. it's a free transfer, we weren't paying him more than 200k a week and the contract was not longer than say 3 years then i'd be happy to have him here.

My concern all along would be to have him on a big contract with Ozil/Sanchez level wages with him then potentially breaking down with injuries and crippling us in future transfer windows. I think us only paying a max of say 200k would be important for dressing room morale too.

I’m not sure that’s as big a factor as is being made out. Has our morale and team spirit suffered from Kane earning twice as much as a most of our squad?
