If we took note of everyone's suggestions for playing people in new positions, we'd have:

Gallas RB, Vertonghen CM, Bale ST, Lennon CF, Benny CM, Walker RM, Rose LB, f*ck knows what else, but it's getting silly now!

Big No for me. Always a bit depressing when Gallas is playing. One of only a few players in out team I don't want to see. We have three young prospects on the right: Walker, Naughton and Smith on loan. Maybe even Fredericks or Byrne are soon ready for this. No need to use an old (ok experienced) average centre back there out of position. Can't wait to see him interacting with Lennon with terrific runs!
Yeah Walker isn't good this season but that position should this season be about naughts and Walker.

Walker hasnt matched or moved on from last season but he's young and it's all about learning. Especially the art of defending. He will learn and get better. He's got all the ingredients to be a top RB.

We do let in too many goals to go for the title and we always have done in my life time, so we can always improve our defence. I don't see who we can get at the moment that's better than Kyle Walker though so why not get behind him? I think in a few years he can become the best RB in the league and go on to get 100 caps for England if he really works hard.

Wasn't the young player of the year award voted for by all the other premiership players? If they think he's that good then there must be something to his game that the topic starter has missed? Only time will tell but Gallas is not the answer at RB, he's been a good player for us but his playing days are nearly over, best to keep him at CB in my opinion.

Why didn't Naughton come on anyway?
Good question.

I can only think it's because either Naughton was carrying a knock and AVB didn't want to risk him (so why have him on the bench at all?) or that he thought that Gallas would be a better choice if they started to sling high balls to the back post.

Think AVB put Willy on to get him some minutes and working towards match fitness on his return from injury.

Quite frankly it's a moot question. Gallas hasn't got the legs to play fullback in the PL for 90 mins consistently. On OPTA stats, the average fullback has to cover a considerablely longer distance than a CB, and Gallas often has to be strapped up and massaged into finishing a game in the middle.

They started to throw more and more bodies forward towards the end of the game.
I would pick Gallas over Naughton and Walker to do a defensive job for the last part of a game, but not to start at RB.

I'd rather put Caulker on the bench instead and avoid any possibility of playing Gallas at right back.

I wish some on here would think before posting.

Walker was superb last season, and yes he has dipped this year, but thats almost normal for players of his age, the second season is always harder, plus we have had a change of management, tactics and players, he still gives 100% every week, we are still flying with him in the team, and he WILL regain his top form in the near future.

I think walker will come good. Even Glen Johnsom looks better now he has matured and Kyle has a higher starting point. If he makes it through this season unscathed and AVB an co can work with him Pre season I'm convinced we will see a very different Kyle Walker next season.

I'm not impressed with Kyle for around 1 year now, but we don't have option.

in 4-2-3-1, with current striker force (no top class one) .. it's touch to satisfied with decent pace from fullbacks like Naughton & Ekotto, so one of them should be at least quick as Walker.

Corluka was good in that season when we secured CL place, but lost his form in the following season, also it's worked for us with him on RB and someone like Ekotto as LB because we played 4-4-2, with someone tall like Crouchy helped, also Corluka made some decent assists. But at this moment we can't count on 4-4-2 that much, we are short upfront and we don't have someone can make a huge difference on the air.

IMO, Walker only need to be dropped, may be the expectation was too high on him, a bit rest could help him, at least to work hard to retain his position.
