Poignant post today on FB re. Frank's health.

There has been a few wandering about my dad's health recently and so I thought i should let you all know Frank Worthington has Alzhiemers. He was diagnosed several years ago and has been holding it off with POSITIVE thinking and football. They say several footballers from my dads era seem to have suffered the same disease, possibly due to the constant heading of the heavy football back in the day. As time goes by though, there are moments when you see the effects of Alzhiemers and this is hard sometimes for all those involved with a loved one who has this disease. It's a funny thing that the one big lesson my dad always taught me was 'mind over matter'.... No matter how hard life gets, being positive will pull you through, Every adversity is a opportunity for change and growth... Thanks dad, that is the biggest gift you ever gave me! And now this silly Alzhiemers is taking you away from all that you taught me.... My heart goes out to all those effected by Alzhiemers, what a journey it is for all those effected!!

Great player and interesting character. Sorry to read this news. But thanks for posting.

This is an awful condition that sooner or later takes away a persons dignity.

Suggestions that prolifically heading old style ball may be increase the risk are worrying to say the least.

A one-off in many ways. They don't make 'em like Frank any more.

I wouldn't worry too much, there is no proven link between the two (only where somebody's been knocked unconcious for over two hours)

My Aunt suffered with Alzheimer's for many years and she hardley ever had a knock on the head or been knocked out

Same - my grandad suffered with it for some time. It's a terrible thing to have to deal with, both as an illness and as someone who has to witness the person they know and love slowly vanish, and they lose the threads that connected them with each individual.

I hope his friends and family know that, despite it all being muddled about and confusing, all of the great times and all of the love shared is still in there.

Kim-Malou has thanked people on FB after receiving hundreds of messages of support to be passed on to Frank and his family. The best part of social media.
