I liken this situation to the one that Conte had at Inter Milan in his first season, when he wanted Eriksen in January.

They could have got him for free the following summer, but Conte put his foot down and insisted they sign him in January so he could use the remainder of the season to get Eriksen familiarised with his system, with a view to the next season.

The board may have considered this an unnecessary outlay (I think it was around €18m they paid) given they could have him for free 6 months later. But they backed their manager, and reaped the rewards 18 months later when they won the Serie A.

Let's see if the Spurs board can back their man in a similar way.

Surely he’d make more money staying put until the summer?

I like him and I think it’s would be a great move if we could get him this month. I’d be surprised but you never know.

Out of curiosity just looked up how Aurier has been doing since he left - apparently only made 3 starts for Villareal and had some injury issues.

Is Kessie all that those here rave about? I have seen very little, except the two CL games against the Pool, where he was distinctly unimpressive?.
Hope he is all that and not just another cheap opportunistic purchase .

Was voted the best midfielder in Serie A last year.

Conte will know all about him too and what he could bring to the team.

He'd be a fantastic purchase.

I'm a fanboy of his. I think he'd fit great in either of Conte's setups.

As I mentioned earlier, he's a bit of Ndombele with a lower ceiling but the trade off is he contributes defensively and has captained his side. So he'll sprinkle in with goals, assists, pen box touches, and relieve pressure with dribbling which none of our current midfielders do that much. All while having a winner's mentality and defensive workrate that Conte will be happy with.

EDIT: I forgot to add that he has been used in all 3 midfield positions at Milan, CAM - CM - CDM and he passes the eye test- looks the part in all three positions.

Well he wouldn't be cheap by any stretch if his contract wasn't so short. I'm not convinced personally based on the admittedly limited games I've seen, but if Conte wants him we 100% should be doing everything to get him.

Agree , if it's who Conte wants then he probably knows more than all us put together. The question is whether it is who Conte wants or a Patrici/Levy deal, as it would be a typical Levy and Patrici deal, cheap, last bit of their contract etc.
