can we lock this thread and focus on the new manager search thread to make it easier for us to follow updates?

this chapter is done and I don’t want to think about Nuno anymore.

But what about those fans who want to chat about Nuno’s beard?

I dont know him, seemed a decent fella but I didn't want him and he proved me correct. A drab style of football that the players were never going to buy into.

We need a big positive character that will reinvigorate our players and fans alike.

Its not the result but the manner of it that counts. You can lose and still play well and take that into the next game.

Playing nuno ball there was nothing to take into the next game because it was always going to be the same regardless of the result.

I am literally overjoyed that I won't have to endure another game of dull, passive, pointless football.

He's my penny's worth....

Nuno seems to be getting a hell of a lot of flak and criticism for the way we have been playing and he's been sacked after 10 league games. Having put up very gracefully with a summer of bullshit including Kane wanting to leave, Ndombele wanting out, not getting some players until late in the window. He dealt with having a silly injury list and having players "lost" to international breaks and covid restrictions.

Nuno gave every player in the squad a fair crack at the whip and many of them let him down big time. He set up the team to win (whilst being unattractive) and the fans complained, he changed the team to be more attacking and the performances improved but some of the results didnt (and the fans still complained). He gave opportunities to Scarlett, Nile John and other youth products.

He took a team that has been performing utter shite and ineffective under Poch's final months, utter shite and ineffective under Jose. and after 3 months of working with most of the players (likely less time with some of the others) the board and the fans have decided thats enough time to completely change the direction of this team performances and mentality despite several senior players calling out some of the squad over the last 18 months.

With all things being considered and I feel utterly disgusted by the way the club and the fans have treated Nuno. He never said a bad word of any player or the clubs conduct. He set up the team selection (most of the time) the same way many of us on here would and yet he still got blasted by fans for team selection (can anyone tell me they would have picked a different team bar Ndombele against United?). Fans never took to him as we had threads for Nuno out from day one.

I used to look at clubs like Chelsea and Watford that seemed to change their managers every season (whether they were successful or not) and think, I'm glad we're not like that and we give managers a bit of a chance.

We're that club
I agree with you 100%.
Nuno seemed like a very decent man and I firmly believe that under different circumstances he could have been successful.

The club is in a total shambles at the moment and it all stems from Levy not backing Poch following the call for the "painful rebuild".

Mourinho attempted to polish the turd but it was a job even too far for him. Then poor old Nuno comes in like a lamb to the slaughter. Into a cauldron of chaos with big characters like Kane and Ndombele throwing their toys out of the pram and perhaps a lack of credibility having come from an inferior club. Perhaps he was unwise to have taken the job. I believe he gave it a good shot (for the reasons you outline above) but clearly the likes of Kane were not willing to take orders from him.
Nuno needs a rest and a nice club where he can build something with his obvious ability, I wish him well.
The only option for Tottenham is a big beast. Someone with the gravitas, experience and track record to shape up the team and to push back on Levy (we thought Mourinho was that guy).
Is it Conte?
We'll see.

Don't think Levy had a choice on this one after the last few results and post match interviews but he needs to take a long look at himself for making the appointment in the first place!

Chants of "disaster" are a bit melodramatic.

We're not that far off fourth and still in all cups. If Nuno was as disastrous as many think then any old manager coming in will improve us slightly and ease into the UCL spots without too much trouble. Right? That's what will happen. Really.

My prediction: lots of journo noise about Conte, nothing ultimately materialises, PR about how 'we tried' or 'we pressed' (also, what's with all this pressing bullshit that's being used over the last year?). We get rid of Nuno, Mason caretakes, and when it's too late to do anything in January we hire someone we have to go to Tifo to find out if they're any good or not. Rinse repeat until we all die.
Hmm, not counting my chickens just yet, but it looks like I could have been absolutely wrong. Let's hope that's the case. We all need some hope to cling to.

Good gravy if we do sign Conte I have to ask - what the f**k was the last 5 months about? We were in "advanced talks" with him in June. Ive always given Levy the benefit of the doubt but he's lost the plot the last couple of years.

To be fair he knew what he was getting himself into when he took the job and although he's been a nice guy it's been painfully obvious that he wasn't up to the task at hand. I wish him well but we were going nowhere with him in charge, it's Levy that deserves the brunt of the criticism though.

Levy has always changed managers all the time, until he got lucky with Pochettino, then he returned to being a dumb f*** Levy and sacked him. So now we await the next sacrifice of a manager to take over. All the while the man who has constantly overseen all these shithows remains, we will be here again in a year/18 months/ 2 years whatever.

When you keep making the same mistakes over and over, keep sacking managers and nothing changes then you look elsewhere for where problems lie. Levy is a problem, we are going nowhere with him. Nowhere.

I have to agree.

It sounds like Conte wants a large backroom staff and has very specific plans in mind. Jose and Nuno have both failed. I think Levy should hire Conte only if he's ready to give Conte everything he wants. If not, then go for a progressive manager who plays good football like Potter.

Personally I couldn't care less about where we finish at the moment as long as we play like a team and actually attack with some kind of purpose.

I wish we still had the optimistic rating - this is on the players not the manager. If the last 3 years haven't shown that i don't know what will.

The elephant in the room still is Joe Lewis and Levy the lack of investment in the squad constantly buying cheaper alternative options has really derailed the club.

Nuno wasn't the right choice from the start. I hope the clubs backs Conte over wise it'll end like Mourinho as I view these sort of managers as the elite with conditions.

Probably a few things at play, but IMO a combination of:

Conte thought the footballing world was the same as pre-COVID. Perhaps seeing what's happened with Barcelona he's realised that the days of spending £200m in a window are gone for almost every club on the planet.

Levy was likely worried about the COVID situation, which in June was still looking shaky as we were still in partial lockdown. Now things are looking clearer and we're very likely going to have a full season of at capacity sporting and other events at the stadium he can now plan more easily for strong future investment.

Probably we thought that Jose's toxicity was a large part of the problem and that a change in dressing room personality would get all the players back on form again. Turns out it's as much the players as it is was Jose. Clearly what we need now is a strong, arse kicking manager to get things back on track in the dressing room.
