I thought he did ok yesterday, was better in the second half when called upon to defend. Looks a good penalty box defender and made a couple of important headers when defending set pieces.

Just has to watch out for when he dives in, a couple of times he really got us in trouble from throw ins of all things and in open play situation this could be more costly. Maybe he was just over-eager though on debut.

Yeah, I agree. There was the bit in the first half where he ran in front of his marker from a throw in only to misjudge the trajectory of the ball and missed the header, against a prem team that would have been 1-0 to the opposition.

All in all though he looked strong in the box.

Personally thought he was awesome. He had one occasion where he mis-judged the flight of that throw but I put that purely down to being over-eager and trying to impress. He passed well, made some nice interceptions through reading the game and stepping out early, passed well also.

I loved his enthusiasm and think him and Vertonghen look comfortable together for a first outing.

Lastly, within this very thread there were suggestions that he might be like Mertesacker but it's clear to me that he is nowhere near as slow and cumbersome. I think we've got a potentially brilliant, long term CB on our hands.

Let's be honest, if he turns out to be like Meatpacker we'll all be over the moon, surely.

Yeah sure, although I'm not not really a fan of the lanky german, he's just not the kind of player that would make me feel at ease if he was playing for my team.

I think Fazio is more agile and reactive on his feet so overall i'm happy with what I've seen.

He looks dominant, a man mountain.

A pro-active defender, just what we need.

I would put him and Verts straight in against WBA which is why I think Lloris played last night.

I think he had a pretty nice debut. What I liked the most about him is his leadership - he was always organizing other players in set-pieces and when the danger was clear he encouraged and motivated his team-mates. We need a back four leader and if he keeps on like that we'll have one (Kaboul is a leader too but has to improve form-wise).

trouble is, that would put our newly promoted captain on the bench (which i dont think will happen)

He's a tough bastard that lad. Just what we need. We're too nice.

Yesterday he looked like a player lacking a bit of sharpness, almost in pre-season mode. Still played well, just made a couple of mistakes. Give him a handful of games and we'll start to see his best.

Really liked what I saw of him. Excellent in the air, good with the ball, smart passing, reads the game excellently, always looking to intercept rather than let the danger increase and actually has more pace than people have been giving him credit for.

Showed a lot of things I associate with a quality centre back. Intelligent and completely assured/confident. He should build on that performance too once he knows his teammates better and is sharper

I think Poch probably sees Younes and Jan as his 'first choice' CB pairing, and cites reasons on top of what we as fans see on the pitch as to why he chose Younes as captain. However he probably recognises that keeping both Younes and Jan fit together may be difficult and so sees Fazio as an adequate replacement for either, particularly perhaps against teams with imposing large strikers (Dzeko, Lukaku, Benteke types).

Not sure where Vlad fits in but I suspect he is 4th choice and when fit may play more of the cup games.

Need to see his recovery speed in the prem, but liked the look of him against PB - clear captain attributes. Could be a very nice partner for verts.

Looks like the kind of CB that's easy to like, pro-active in defence, strong in the air and composed on the ball. He isn't gonna be a world beater, but he's a solid guy for sure.

I think Fazio is getting a bit too much stick, he's obviously big and slow but the same is true of Mertesacker who took a while to fit in at Arsenal but has since been recognized as a very good player. Fazio was captain of Seville and a Europa League winner as we all know, surely he is a genuine case of a player needing time to adapt? Hangalland was another giant CB who has been a class defender at times during his long Premiership career.

I think despite his red cards he's been better than Kaboul and Vlad and should be starting with Jan as much as possible, only Dire has done enough to push him for his place in my opinion but he's been played at RB and is maybe not quite ready for a starting role.

He was horrendous today Ramon vega style . Time will tell if he up to scratch but has a lot of improving to do to cut it in the premier league

It was at least nice to see him shouting at the other players after he'd chased back and made a tackle towards the end.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

Maybe most are going to look bad along side Kaboul who's form at the moment stinks
