Hopefully Conte will be renewed after his mini break and we can get back on an even keel

I just don't see it ever ultimately improving when where we play with possession can basically be summed up by this quick and crude graphic:

pitch.jpg

When do we ever play the ball in combinations and rotations and take it in congested spaces into and around the box? Seldom ever. Even with all that possession and territorial advantage first half we only got about two bits of play that ended in some passes, movement, and through balls into the penalty area.

If we can't counter/transition and/or attack space there is very little to us. We get the dreaded u-shape passing from one flank, across the midfield/defence and out to the other side. Eventually it's time to spam in one of those 7 billion crosses we get a game, or someone gets bored and slams a long or diagonal ball in the vague direction of a team mate. If we're really lucky, we might get a set piece to try and score from.

Individually we're weak taking the ball and operating in these areas, tactically even worse. Pretty much every defence is well organised these days and I'm not saying it's easy to do, it is the hardest part of the pitch to play and move the ball, but in the PL in 2023 (especially if you're purporting to be a top team) I can't see how you can have success when you struggle so much to move the ball and put phases together in and around the box.

Porro, Romero, Emerson, Udogie (perhaps), and Spence (maybe) are a few decent foundations to work with, IMHO.

I think individually yes but I was referring to the fact that Wenger had a back 4 ready to go when he arrived, the defensive unit did not need touching and so he was able to layer on his attacking prowess.

Today was the final straw for me. I’ve backed Conte and his coaches. Even though the football has been fucking atrocious for as long as I can remember. Some games I don’t even watch because of the utter bullshit thats being served up.
However, this week could not have got any worse.
To throw away the FA Cup against Sheffield Utd reserves to then lose to Wolves is a sackable offence.
The Conte era died today. It’s over.
Let’s be honest. The football is shit. The team selection is shit. The formation is shit. The substitutions are shit. The players either have still no idea what he wants or are refusing to carry his instructions out. It’s all over the fucking place.
Either way thats if for me the bloke needs to go asap and we start yet another rebuild because it’s clear we are going nowhere with Conte. He obviously won’t be here next season so may as get rid now.
Levy has fucked up yet again with another appointment. Didn’t back him in the transfer windows and here we are. It’s no surprise is it, will there ever be an end to Levys incompetence.
No idea where this joke of a club goes from here. Think whoever we bring in now will make little difference with these owners in charge anyway.
Destined to be laughed at forever.
So fucked off with this club and just wish I didn’t care so much or they would’ve been in the fucking bin a long time ago.

Can’t wait for the day he & his stubborn set of coaches go 👋🏼

The World Cup was such a nice break because I didn’t have to watch us. Now I can’t wait until the end of the season so I don’t have to watch us either. A football club isn’t meant to make a person feel that way.

Even when we were mid table shit, I wasn’t as fed up with the club as I am now. Why does it feel different now? Because we were so close to glory and fucked it up the only way we know how I suspect. It really hasn’t felt the same since losing that final. Maybe I should have walked away then because it’s been all downhill since.

I will never in my life, understand how Levy decided Ten Hag was not a good after his manifesto after that Villa game.
Levy has been a disgrace regarding managerial appointments since he sacked Poch. By all his accounts he specifically was the one who wanted a washed up Mourinho, then sacked him at a weird time and failed spectacularly to replace him for however many months, appointed Paratici (who had his own weird ideas) and only green lighted Conte in a desperate attempt to salvage things. No doubt he’ll fuck up this summer too.

Yeah I mean there really isn’t one logical explanation especially considering our next three choices were Fonseca, Gattuso and Nuno. What a farce

He’s been awful in his managerial appointments since he became CEO. He’s arguably had 3 successful appointments but the first 2 - Jol and Redknapp - carry important asterisks regarding how they got the job. Even in Poch’s case wasn’t the talk that we’d have ended up with Louis van Gaal had Utd not gazumped us.

Levy is just a horrid judge when it comes to managers.

It's embarrassing isn't it. For the want of a reset, the last 4 years have been such a waste of time.
I wish Levy would go but because he wont be this is the lesson to take.

This football club should never ever hire a coach simply because they are winner.

But more importantly they should never hire a coach that goes against our ethos.

Having watched Fonseca's last 2 games at Lille, I'm certain we would have seen some very good performances and had Fonseca gone into bad form or failed with objectives, the switch to the next coach would have been smoother.

We would have obtained a group of players that would have more or less suited the next coach.

By going to Jose, who wanted very technically limited players like Doherty/Hojbjerg, to Nuno, who just let Paratici do what he wanted to Conte, who needs very specific system players such as Perisic, we have accumulated a real mish mash of players.

Wait til Reguillon, Winks, Ndombele and Lo Celso return!

I believe we do have a nucleus there for a high intensity press coach but we also have about 10 players who are not going to suit that so will need a major clear out.

Had we not gone down that route, a proper Tottenham coach would likely just 1 or 2 windows to get it right.

Do you worry about other fans laughing at you? That is the last of my concern. I really don't give two hoots about other fans.

We started brightly today and played well in the first half. Wolves didn’t even muster 1 effort on goal in the first half. The defence was solid, midfield in control, we dominated the ball and although still not firing on all cylinders Kane, Son and Kulusevski were to some extent at the races.

Second half, although Wolves had several chances we still defended pretty well. What was unfathomable was why despite our first half dominance we went back into our shell, an approach that has rarely worked out well this season. Like seriously, we were controlling the game but due to some moronic reason we did a Man City away all over again… literally downed tools from a midfield control and offensive perspective.

We finally looked solid at the back only to forget how to attack again. Conte harps on about how we need better defenders but even when they play well we’re still not allowed to play attacking free flowing football. Today’s turnaround from 56% possession and 11-0 on shots in the first half was a new all time low. It’s like Conte’s waiting for the defence to fuck up so we must defend and hope for a lucky counter attack. There’s no way we’re getting top 4 this season with Conte still at the helm. Don’t forget, if the teams below us win their games in hand we’ll be 8th.

honestly, that I can live with, but Porro for Emerson was truly mindboggling. was it an attempt at retaining the 0-0? taking out a more offensive oriented RWB that was actually having a solid game, having just hit a good early cross to Kane a few minutes back makes no sense if you intend to go for the victory. one might argue that Emerson actually deserved the place in the starting XI and I'd fine with it but this course of action was inexplicable.
I missed that because I had taped it and checked the score once Lucas came on…

If if if. The biggest word in life. Despite everything, I think we will make 4th. Thinking something as low as 68 points might be enough this time around. So, another 7 wins, 2 draws and 3 losses as one possible permutation.

We lost control because Lopetegui saw Wolves had issues and made changes at HT.

He then switched it up further and made more changes.

In the meantime, Conte did nothing.

He did the same in the EL final against Lopetegui.

It's why at HT I felt we really needes to take our chances because a coach like Lopetegui isn't going to not switch it up.
