My sources says that Conte used the hairdryer treatment in his half time speech. He borrowed Cucurellas hair dryer.

On the game itself, it was fascinating to see the tactical battle play out. Chelsea's 4-2-2-2 absolutely caught us on backfoot.

I didnt think Conte will ever switch to 4-4-2 so early in the 2nd half. Glad he did - that certainly gave us the edge late....only for Tuchel then to nullify it with his changes.

In terms of the 90 minutes today, rather worrying stuff. No doubt we have a top class manager, but the knock on him has always been stubborness and lack of in game flexibility. Think he was totally and utterly outcoached today, in a way that doesn't fill me with confidence against the more wily tacticians in the league/Europe.

That being said, does feel like a bit of a mentality switch that is probably Conte-instilled in terms of being able to pick up a point out of that display.
I thought he out thought Tuchel in the last quarter of the game and helped us get the better of them enough to get the draw. His only real mistake was not to replace Sessegon with Perisic when he took Sessegon off.

Thought this was pretty insightful on breaking down the tactical battle. During the game I remember Conte having the subs ready to switch back to 5atb, but they scored before we could make the change. I wonder if we could've got more than a point if we had made the change before Chelsea scored their second.

Richarlison on changed the game so that was the right sub

he should have brought on Perisic faster when Tuchel changed tactics / we scored in hindsight

And Conte needed to react to this immediately. There was no way that system (and Son playing left mid) was going to cope with James when he went to RWB.

This.

He was making those subs before the goal, it looked like he was switching back to a 5 just as they scored. Which was annoying, but ultimately didn’t matter as we got back in it anyway.

I do feel like the media are trying to push something on this “no new players thing”

He knows we will need everyone this season, Bissouma and Perisic in particular will definitely be starters but he needs to keep everyone on side. You don’t just drop players after a decent game

They might start off against Wolves the same, I think we should see our proper XI by the time we play West Ham, barring injuries
It annoys me more that they don't do their research. Perisic was injured and didn't play a full game in pre season. Bissouma had covid and then took a knock so didn't have a full pre season. Neither of them have been ready to start anyway. Other than that none of the others are going to improve on the team that has been in good form the last few months.

It's also largely been about the squad depth anyway. Our first team after the Jan window is very strong now. Having the quality off the bench is key. We could bring on Perisic instead of Reguilon, Bissouma instead of Winks and Richarlison instead of Bergwijn. It made a big difference. With the players from last season we are more likely to concede another and lose.
