more on the contract, sounds very promising

Not a dig at you because you're just sharing this, but that is not what he said at all.

"I understand the sacrifices this club did for me" were his actual words. Whoever has reported that has either mis-heard or deliberately twisted it into something entirely different.

Edit: and reading through the posts following the one I replied to, it's already having an effect similar to what I was anticipating, which is why I pointed this out. I tried to write that without it sounding pompous but failed miserably. Sorry.

2 things from me. How good is it to finally have a super proactive manager! The subs saved the game and then when they went down to 9 instantly he puts on an attacking mid to put the game to bed.
I get a lot have issues with lo celso but 1 think I will say is he makes very good runs into the box and in the final 3rd. He should have scored but I think get him confidence snd he could be pivotal for us in goals from midfield. Conte loves a midfielder who does that.

I think we need to bear in mind that when Jose came in he also said many things that fans felt were long overdue and cut through all the bullshit and excuses. And I agreed ( and still do ) with plenty that he said.

I know there are differences in that Jose’s really successful periods were in the past, whereas Conte is still very much relevant now, but the fact remains that his message didn’t seem to permeate through most players and the club after the initial period.

We just have to hope that this time the message gets through to the players and the owners.
Well, as you've alluded to, the reason we should be much more hopeful with Conte is because his message is backed up with proper contemporary tactical know-how and a belief in the importance of fitness, the latter of which Jose was severely lacking in.

Not this again. ENIC owns the club. I get fans are reluctant to give ENIC any credit but what is the benchmark here? What other club owners in world football pumped their own money in to build a new stadium?

This is not true. There is an excellent discussion of this exact topic in the ENIC thread, but since you insist on perpetuating this bs here, I'll oblige.

The vast majority of the funds that have been put towards the club have been sourced as long term loans from the banks using THFC as leverage. The £40M that was initially given by Joe Lewis prior to the construction of the stadium was an interest free loan that would be repaid by the club. Even in the past, before the stadium was built, ENIC used the revenues generated by the club to scoop up the properties around the club. There is not a single player that was purchased in the past 2 decades that was paid for by ENIC's own money but rather from profits from player sales.

It's bs like this that infuriates me how quasi-factual statements like this are used to play on the ordinary fans lack of understanding of modern finance and make glorified statements. Make no mistake, they are in it for the real estate and property development. Football is secondary to them. They're just using the club to enhance their investment portfolio.

That said, this is not the thread to be discussing the virtues of ENIC. There's already a dedicated thread for that.

Yep spot on, I tried to emphasise that Romero wont play centrally right now.

It will most likely be Dier and Sanchez centrally.

Romero and Tanganga RCB, Davies and Rodon LCB.

Obviously will need signings at the back.
Still don't see why Romero can't play central. Where did he play in Italy, and for Argentina
Anyway if for whatever reasons he can't play central, then Romero Sanchez Rodon/Davies for Sunday

i’ve never been so excited. he knows exactly what we need. unforgivable if we don’t back him.

We might as well pack up and call it a day if we don't. There is no point pretending to be a big club.

Watching his press conference though and I wonder if he's realised he's in for a huge task.

We do, but also there were many Spurs fans who were Anti Jose from the start. I really didn't like that, and it didn't help the situation at all

My only hesitation, and it is well founded with Levy in charge, is have we appointed him to just get the best out of the current squad?

Is Levy still sitting there going, Winks, Dier, Davies, Moura, Alli, terrific players, I hired Conte to get the best out of what I know is a great squad. I don't think he is, but we can't be sure until we see some significant transfer business.
It’s not worth worrying about until we are actually in a period to change things. Nothing can be done until January. Right now the squad is the squad and the focus is on this squad to get results.

It has been explained several times in this very thread that Gasperini (Atalanta) played one ball player in the middle and two cloggers as wide CBs, but Conte has tended to prefer two ball players either side of a clogger in his defensive three.

Hence Romero in the middle in a Gasperini 3-4-3, but wide in a Conte 3-4-3. It's simply the manager's tactical preference.

I like that Conte said he appreciates the sacrifices the club have made for him to be here. Sounds like he’s all too aware of what our usual approach is and I’m happy to hear the powers that be are showing a willingness to change.

I’ve heard a lot of people say that Conte won’t be hear long (rival fans obviously). Maybe I’ve drank the Kool aid but I think if you look at those situations where he left Juventus, Chelsea and Inter, there was specific grievances as to why he left after a fairly short period. I hope if we are consistent in how we support him that he will be here for a very long time.

Here is the full press conference. I think he is actually talking about the cost of his contract but also he seems to expand on it talking about the training ground and it being a place where if you want to work then you can. Ie. it is so good that there is no excuse not to work hard. I think he's talking about the economic layout of the training ground etc. It is nothing more than that.

Ian Abrahms question at 8 minutes is a really good one and one that gets him talking about how big a challenge this job is.

Does anyone speak italian and can translate the final question and answer in the press conference? Conte in his native language gave a very comprehensive answer so would be really curious to know what that was about
Where's Romario when you need him?

He talks about himself having to be patient too, which he genuinely seemed to realise. Maybe he has learnt from his experiences at other clubs?

He doesn't come across as a man who only wants to be here 5 minutes.

Link to the press conference:

He speaks with such assurance.

Mabye he is tempering expectations but a bit worried about how he said there is so much room for improvement is that a good things as in he thinks he can take this group to another level or is it a bad thing in that he thinks the quality of the players is miles off what we need it to be.

Also interesting he kept saying that the club need a vision on the pitch to match the vision off the pitch. Hopefully he and Paratici can drive forward that vision.

I wonder what it is/was at the likes of Juve, Inter etc which showed that they had a strong football vision, was it quality of players in the squad or the football people internally all being aligned on the players to buy to suit a certain formation or was it setting clear goals on the football side and a plan to achieve those?

Fascinating stuff.
