We said that about Poch...
Ange seems a bit better at identifying players though for me,

Under Poch we seemed a little clueless in this regard and most of the clever signings had been made before or the summer he came to us.

Ange long term would be great but he’s an ambitious man so we really need to be matching his.

That's because levy was in charge of transfers and didn't hire a DOF.

Poch used to say that he was allowed to suggest a profile of a player needed, and then a TRANSFER COMMITTEE (which was probably just Levy in various wigs) would make a decision on the specific player.

This is why when Poch told the board that he wanted Mane, he ended up getting Sissoko.

I thought it was Poch who wouldn't work with a DoF ?

I don't know any of them personally but, with regard to transfers and being asked to sign a player they didn't particularly rate, I imagine Poch would've discussed the merits and done his best to debate signing them, Conte would've argued and declared Levy doesn't know what he's doing, Ange would just go, "Nah. What about this fella?" and moves past it without a pause.

Conte just came across as a bit of an arsehole as a person - undoubtedly he's talented as a manager for the right squad, for the type of player who wants to be in a Conte team, but that wasn't our squad, the attitude was just too... I dunno, Dickensian headmastery.

Also why, come the end, he was saying things like "maybe I'll just leave if we win the CL, because it'll never get any better than this," and "just change my job title to coach". We get on his back about that, but he was telling us all along; "nice house, time to add furniture" etc.

I love Ange but not sure the potential Bill Nic legacy comparisons are quite right.

Poch did talk about the long term. He loved to slowly implement players. Sadly poor and non existent singing a for a period killed that and his attitude changed. But there was definitely a period where he was taking about staying for a very long time.

With Ange he has said managing a club for around 3 years is the right amount. I love Ange and the playing style he’s implementing but I’m not sure he’s looking to be here for a decade.
I don't think that comparisons to legends are ever helpful anyway.

But even assuming we would have stayed 5th doesn’t say much.

We finished 6th under Sherwood. And he’s generally treated like some kind of joke.

I could see him being tempted by such a prestigious job that would offer him the chance to notch up another league title.

I really don't think so, he seemingly isn't even sure about going as far as Napoli let alone Munich!

Personally I think, with Allegri looking unlikely to renew and not exactly setting the world alight, he's waiting for the call from Juve in the summer.

Out of interest, what do you think the answer is?

I’ll humour you.

It was well reported by ITK that certain promises were made and not kept at the board level, the club showed little faith in his philosophy and didn’t back him adequately yet expected him to sign an extension to his contract.

I’m not sure about you, but if my employer promised me things when I joined the company, failed to deliver and then expected me to sign an extension this would most likely cause tension between us and I would eventually look to move on. I still remember at the time there were members here crying “why would they back him if he wants to leave” completely forgetting that the club hadn’t back him in the first place, so he had no faith in them doing so if he had signed an extension.

Regardless of his salary, if the club weren’t willing to give him the exact tools he needed to do the job to his standard they shouldn’t have hired him in the first place. Blame the man all you want for HOW he went out, but don’t forget the main reason WHY.

Haha thanks, but I was asking @TOLBINY specifically in order for them to stop spamming the Ange thread, but they refuse to talk about it in here and still spamming.

I think I have a fairly good idea of the point Tolbiny was trying to make but he’s more than welcome to add any context I may have missed.
