Am sure the left/pc brigade will call it a racist killing etc but police do not use these weapons for fun, there are very strict guidelines for their use so I am sure Atkinson was not calmly sitting in his dads house sipping tea, he must have been acting aggressively/violently for police to be called in first place

What a lovely world we live in.

Life taken so cheap for what might happen.

This damn or be damned approach is simply a road to ruin.

If they did do that they should be sacked and punished further. However I can't see that being the case at all. If someone was semi unconscious on the floor, there's no need to taser them again. You taser them to render them a bit useless so you can put the cuffs on. Even in the eyewitness accounts on BBC news, there are several different accounts of what went on, including the number of times he was tasered, so don't believe everything until the whole story comes out.

For those who don't want tasers used (understandably with regards to not knowing someone's health issues beforehand) what would you suggest? If a 17 stone man high on drugs with a knife trying to butcher people was on the loose and there were no armed (gun) officers for miles, which is often the case, how would you stop him. An asp would bounce off him, some people aren't affected by CS gas (and gas could also affect innocent bystanders AND in rare cases cause permanent damage to vision). What would you do?
What did the police do before tasers? How about using pepper spray with the truncheon? Or guns that fire pepper balls or bean bags? These are less lethal than Tasering.

I did explain both asp and spray in my post. We're pretty lean generally considering we don't use guns or water cannons even though the latter would've been perfect for the riots. Before tasers, basically police officers and members of the public were killed or seriously injured more often.

You can find fault in anything. 'Pepper balls' could cause blindness if shot in someone's eye. Bean bags are just ridiculous. Basically anything like that could and probably will injure because that's what they're made for. It's a weapon and weapons are designed to injure. There has to be a weapon used that doesn't always kill but does stop the ultra violent suspect from harming. Asp, spray etc does the job generally, which is why you hardly hear of anything like this, but for the more violent uncontrollable suspects, they won't work. It needs more.

So the officer wasn't wearing his body worn camera. Don't want to say that's convenient but...

This is just a stupid post. What has left or right got to do with anything?

Also, don't assume to know why the police were called. Let's wait for the facts at least.

Assuming there was intent to end his life I would agree with you. Given that there probably wasn't, I don't.

You clearly don't use twitter, the stuff on there in the hashtag is unreal, 90% of the tweets are from left wing SJW's who are accusing the police of murder and that he was only killed because he was black

Just seen an interview with the 'witness' who claimed police beat up Dalian Atkinson. She looks like something out of Benefits Street, hardly reliable, the type who would have an agenda against police

Can tasers be fired multiple times then? I though that 2 probes were shot out attached by a fine wire to the taser. Not the sort of thing that can be quickly re loaded.

Last update I saw (admittedly it was 5-6 years back) the modern ones can fire 3 times per cartridge rather than the old school once and reload. I'd guess that the "4 or 5" she claims to have witnessed were more like 4 or 5 of the clicks heard while they are discharged.

Sure I'm no expert but I find it mightily hard to believe they were using excessive force against someone that would be causing enough of a disturbance to attract witnesses

You can press the trigger again to administer the shock through the same barbs. As soon as the current is stopped, the person being tasered can move again so if they try to kick off/reach for a weapon etc the shock can be administered again.

So therefore it is football related. Picture the following headline - famous footballer dies in car crash. It would be discussed on general football

I may be thick but it seems to me the point here is a guy was tasered and died. That's the real issue and that needs to be explored to find out what happened.

By coincidence he had a career some years ago in football.

Still - it's just my opinion .
