If the club is not ambitious, I can't see how we can blame him wanting to leave if he has an agreement with Levy; and so long he doesn't do a Modric.

The interview was translated on another thread and reads completely differently. Saying that, if he wants to go - fine. We'll make handsome profit on him (has to go for £10m) and is not completely irreplaceable. Maybe replace with someone able to concentrate for 90+ mins each week.

Maybe Disco Benny has caught wind of the Vert deal going through and is worried about his left back future?

Disappointed really, and I really did like him. Was at the Everton game when he scored that screamer, he celebrated like he gave a shit alright.

Baines is without doubt the obvious replacement. He'll cost big bucks but worth it for me. This guy performs well consistently - that's why he'll be pricey.

Also depending on what we want do with Pienaar we could well have some nice leverage there.

Reading the translation of that article reads differently than what's been reported....

despite baines' freekicks/penalties he's still contributed to fewer goals than benny this season and he's not a patch on him defensively either, nowhere near as comfortable on the ball and definitely not as cool. he's not going anywhere, all he's said is he wants us to spend and wants to play cl, that doesn't directly translate to "i want to leave"

That would be pretty good actually. Although I do rate Pienaar, Harry doesn't seem to rate him that much so we may as well get an improvement on our first 11 out of the situation.

If Bayern couldn't convince Baines, how will we?

He's a good player but he isn't an upgrade on BAE.

Jordi Alba isn't an upgrade defensively either.

the only reason they couldn't convince him is because he gets homesick, that's why he didn't go to the world cup.

I think he has pretty much been honest about how he sees things, and I think he is trying to influence the board into investing so that the club can and will be a top European team challenging for honours, I like that and think it is fair. I don't think it is so much a pay rise as it is a way to try and push the whole club on.

I rate Pienaar as well but I don't think Harry will want to take him back...if Levy gets a satisfactory offer from Everton he'll have Harry's blessing to let him go I think, which is a pity IMO. If that's the case we could well use that situation.

had enough of players that do not want to be here tbh. We will see on Sunday who wants to be here and who has the bo**ocks to get us into the CL. Fancy Dan's just in it for the cash can do one as far as I'm concerned, we need some committment.
