Hopefully just posturing and signaling they are going to expect full price, which they should. There is zero reason to expect a bargain here.

we should have known long ago whether we were willing to pay it and if not we should have been much more careful putting this out into the media.

His club are hardly going to come out and say yea he's shit we want rid. It's all part of the game this type of posturing.

Said it a few weeks ago that with clubs like Leverkusen who need to sell one maybe 2 players a season you need to move early and decisively because tying to buy a player from them after they've already sold one for decent amount makes it trickier and more expensive. We will likely pay the price for this now they sold Diaby but still have to take the directors quotes with a pinch of salt

This is the opposite of them saying they won't sell him, this is them saying please give us a lot of money to sell him.
Agree 100%.

The previous week, when everything went quiet over the VdV and Tapsoba signings after all the positive info, i did see someone mention (whether it be itk or just clever guesswork) that the two German clubs were pushing up the prices (or at the very least not negotiating lesser fees) for their players because they 'knew' Harry Kane was going to Bayern and consequently we'd have plenty of money. Whether that's true or not i don't know, but it's reasonably plausible imo ??

I feel this is one we might regret not getting done sooner - even at a higher price.

Now that everyone "thinks" we have Kane money coming, they are going to continue to hold out for higher and higher prices.

Don't worry buddy, we'd rather sign no one, than pay a penny over what we think a players worth. It's the Tottenham way.

Lol once these kind of quotes start coming out it usually means it’s game over.

I reckon it has been for a while. Ever since the VDV news that he was close to joining us then something changed on their front. He was the one we were pursuing. Plus Ange wanted him at Celtic apparently.

I thought it was us who changed the payment structure for VdV

How very predictable.
Yup. It's been too quiet for a while.

Which begs the question - if we need to buy a new starting CB (which we do), who the hell are we actually chasing that's credibly progressed?

I've been pretty calm so far this window, as we started well, but the last 2 to 3 weeks we've gone in reverse. Not good

Followed by "actually I think Lenglet will suit the possession football under Ange, he was only shit because of the low block"
