There is absolutely no reason it shouldn’t be both based on cost.

we have neglected cb for about 5 years bar Romano.

we need both and this is the time to actually back the manager.

anything else and we are short changing him.

we aren’t looking at £80m cbs here.

£70m -£80m would probably get both.

acting small time again sadly.

If for example, it's the January transfer window and you think your manager might just storm off in huff in a couple of weeks but asks for an expensive but good player very specific to his system - like a right wing back - but all alternative managerial options to succeed him don't play with wingbacks.

I agree in general should back our managers but I'm still so very glad we didn't back Nuno and pay like 40-50m or whatever Wolves wanted for Traore.

What a shit transfer that would've been.
Then don't employ them in the first place innit. You can't bring them in and then refuse to buy the type of players they want. Well not if you want them to succeed that is.

Isnt this more a question of style? I can understand the club not buying a player a manager wants if the club thinks the manager won’t be here long and the new manager will have a completely different way of playing.

But that is the issue! If Brighton lose De Zerbi they will get another De Zerbi/Potter. The players they buy fit a style and they only hire managers who play that way. It’s easy to ‘’back the manager’’ when you know even if the manager leaves those players will still be useful.

I think the club can only ‘’back the manager’’ if it backs a style so the players, managers, scouts youth system have an aligned way of doing things. This is what almost every elite club does these days and we don’t, we swing from style like a drunk falling around a bar. We need more than sticking with a manager to stick with a way of playing and build off that.

Guess that highlights the bad managerial appointment.

I am just hoping despite recent itk we do get two quality CBs over the line. Tapsoba is still the one highest on my list that seems doable.

He’s been backed so far though?
2 new CBs and then I don’t know what else anyone expected.
I’d be happy with 5 signings of the required standard personally.
There’s still a long way to go in the window and no one has said VDV is off.

Maybe we need to start seeing some movement out the club.

the squad needs trimming and we have no European football for revenue.

I’m guessing if we can shift 5-6 bring some money in then will probably add a defender or two to the squad .

If by that you mean Nuno then yes he never should’ve been hired but that’s then, we now have Ange, let’s focus on the present and stop dwelling on the past that is now long gone.

This is Tapsoba thread, he looks a real talent let’s hope we can get a deal done.

Ange said in his latest presser he has other areas he’s focusing on more incomings (in response to if Hugo goes does he want to sign another GK) I think that means CB (once he has assessed the current ones a bit more) we shall see.

Not disputing your reasoning, financially it makes sense.

However, to step away from your view, as it is not personal, when is a good time? We needed at least one centre back last summer and didn’t do it with CL and we didn’t capitalise on it.

Regardless of whether you’re pro or anti Levy, Cullen, Conte or Chirpy, that defence was shoddy in a 5, make the gaps bigger with a back 4 it feels like we are asking for trouble.

I think I’ll give myself solace in backing BTTS on the betting coupon each week 😂

💯 per cent I agree with what your saying . The thought of dier , tanganga, Sanchez playing in a back four gives me nightmares and what’s more worrying we have bought players like Porre and undogie that are much better suited to wing back roles . Which I don’t think we are going to play that system at all next seaso.n

if we had big imposing CB’s with pace we could play Porro and Udogie with Bissouma in between the CB’s like we did with Poch’s old back 4 and keep the full backs high.

No way on Earth we do that with Dier and Tanganga. Don’t know if Tapsoba is the answer but it seems the scouts think he is so fingers crossed.

Romano says we will have new round of talks next week with leverkusen for tapsoba. He's our number one target but want to find a compromise on asking price.

This was in a podcast so can't link
