With Harrys comments on the official site that Hutton "has everything" after his total exclusion from the team, it got me thinking.

Harry seems to have a knack of wearing a player down to within an inch of breaking point, where, at that moment of vulnerability and weakness a moment of clarity appears and in that moment of clarity they save their career.

Look at his success stories since he's arrived:

Bale
Lennon
Dawson
Ekotto
Gomes
Huddlestone

Is Hutton the next to join this list?

He even tried it with Darren Bent before he left. Is this Redknapps way of making a player with great potential stronger mentaly? Like a teacher criticising a promising student who is coasting to get more out of them?

i'd say that Levy's attitude toward selling those players is a also a key part of it i.e. he wont give them away for nothing so basically, they have the choice of rotting in the training matches/Carling Cup or waiting until their contracts expire. But i agree, Harry basically hands it over to them to prove themselves or sit around on the sidelines for a few years which is as it should be IMO.The brighter ones get it quite quickly, others dont...

It seemed to work with Pav too although there's still some debate about that.

Since when did Harry wear Ekotto, Lennon and Gomes down to an inch of breaking point? They've been first choice picks since Harry came to the club regardless of form (Gomes example).

Actually he benched Gomes for a while, and made a point of making public announcements about his lack of confidence in him. I'm pretty sure Harry is rather more shrewd than he might appear in his man management. The three players you listed are a good example. Gomes gets the drill sergent treatment, which seems to keep him at his best. Lennon the confidence player gets bigged up all time, and BAE, who seems to be someone who just gets on with the job regardless, he hardly ever says anything about one way or another.

You can see these variations in his treatment of players throughout the team. His apparently offhand remarks generally have this purpose, I'd say.
