Surely a player with a slightly lesser ability than Berba who wants to play for us will be better than a moody Berba who doesnt? As much as I hope he stays and sorts his head out (and stops doing a Kevin & Perry strop on the pitch when people dont do exactly as he wants), if he doesnt he will cause problems with the team morale etc

to be honest, If Man Utd meet our asking price £28m, I would love Levy offer Berbatov for Chelsea for £26-£27m, just sending a message to that shit SAF we are not running for money, and some of their poor fans we aren't their feeder club. I'm sick of them and their attemps to sign our players !!!

But I'm sure we could get more money for Berbatov if Chelsea made late approach. That's would be good for me !

Selling Berbatov to Chelsea for less money (even for £5million more) is bad, bad, BAD.

To be honest his attitude stinks, he wants to go, let him go. I have had enough of his strops, and to be honest by doing this he has probably missed out on a few clubs bidding for him by being a petulent git.

Great footballer, but not a team player at the moment, and I cannot see that changing if he does not get his own way. Lets get the money for him and invest in other players.

Absolutely right. As good as he is, if he doesn't want to be here then good riddance.

totally agree mate. Berbatov has been the best talent at the lane for years, but if we sell now and reinvest the money in a proven goalscorer who wants to play at the club, I really don't think it will be that great a lose. I'd happily take Santa Cruz, think he'd fit perfect into the team.

Can I play devils advocate for a minute.
Imagine if Berbatov hadn't been at Spurs at all and Ramos had put together the squad he has now, all youth and speed and (togetherness).
All of a sudden, we were in the position to buy Berbatov for £28 million.
Would we as Spurs fans want him to come into the squad, even allowing for his unquestioned ability, with the knowledge that for the past two seasons he has been a moody shit, with a trappy agent and could possibly upset the harmony that Ramos is building at the club?
Personally, I wouldn't go near him.

me either.

providing we get another adequate goalscorer then I'm not fussed if berbabum leaves.

the partnership of mido & keane wasn't exactly amazing but we had our best season in 05/06, why? because the midfield was better and the defence was better. I don't think focussing all our efforts on one star man is healthy

Nice question, Orko.

Not sure if I'm honest. What I expect would happen is that 90% of people here (myself included) would make some ball-busting nonsense about how 'Ramos wouldn't put up with that shit' the same way Utd fans are with Fergie now. Hence, I probably would want us to sign him. However, I think I may be wrong to do so.

There's no evidence at all that suggests he's been a "moody shit".

Bar that though, I agree. However this is always the case, for me anyway. I often prefer players we already have to players we don't, even if I don't think the player in question is as good as someone we might bring in. This isn't the case with Berba though. He's one of the best players in the world... but I'm not sure he fits perfectly into the system we appear to have adopted with attacking midfielders behind an out and out goalscorer. He could still play as the main striker or second striker, and I think it would be silly to say we'd be better off without him, but I certainly don't think we'd miss him anything like as much as we would before we started employing this new system, with Bent looking absolutely awesome leading the line.

Flatters berbatov is moody but i don't care, he'll still perform for us. What does everyone think the opposition would do if they were playing us, not mark him with 3 players becasue they think he's moody?? no thay do what they lawasy do and treat him as the extraordinary threat he is. Just being on the pitch will give our new improved midfield and a fully firing Bent more room to do the damage.

I actually think the storming off becasue he was subbed incident isn't such a bad thing becasue if you beleive it to be true then he must have had a desire to stay on the pitch, OUR pitch wearing a spurs shirt. That shows at the very least he wants to play football more than he wants to have a sit down protest or go on strike.

I wasn't at WHL on sunday. what reception did Berbatov get from us?

He actually got a tremendous reception. The typical from last season really. I was expecting it to be a bit mixed, but thankfully it didn't seem to be.

But if you were to get 3X your original investment for a guy who will spend 50% of his time on Yaniteds bench, it might be a smart investment.

Mos def he can go except to Chelsea, Man U or Arse.

Morning all

First time poster here. Have decided that if Berbs does have to be sold then Man Utd might not be a bad destination for us. By making them stronger it will mean that Arsenal and Chelsea will be less likely to win the league and for me that is a positive. In an ideal world he would sign a new contract and stay but that's not looking likely. Based on our signings so far this summer, I have enough faith in Ramos et al to bring in a quality replacement

This Berba situation with some fans on here is a bit like if you know your GF is about to dump you, your gonna start slagging her off a bit to mates and be like im better off without her but your still gutted when the inevitable happens. If Berba stays then i am pretty sure he will be the same as he has been for the past two years, a class act, making a lot of goals and also banging a lot of goals in

LOL talk about clutching at straws, I think it would be for the best for Tottenham to let him go. Im not just saying that because im a Manchester United fan, the constant rumours with him are getting ridiculous now. I think it has got to the stage that no matter what Tottenham say or do he just wants out now, his agent has made it clear that the player wants a champions league club. It would be better for Spurs if you sign a replacement who wants to be at the club, if Berbatov stays another season he will be very unhappy and he will not give his best. His transfer value will decrease by the end of this season and he will still be begging for a move next summer. I think it would be better for Tottenham to let him go and draw a line under the whole thing. Also, can someone tell me where the manwhore section has gone?

Manchester United want Berba deal done before Sunday

Manchester United are determined to complete the signing of Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham Hotspur before the start of the new Barclays Premier League campaign this weekend, but relations between the clubs remain frosty as the Premier League prepares to pass judgment on Tottenham's complaint about their rivals' pursuit of the Bulgaria forward.
The Premier League's board will meet tomorrow or on Thursday to discuss Tottenham's complaint about United's pursuit of Berbatov, which Daniel Levy, the London club's chairman, has described as “disgraceful”. Levy claims to have evidence that United have “systematically been working to prise [Berbatov from Tottenham] outside of Premier League rules of conduct”, although publicly he has stopped short of accusing them of making an illegal approach, which would constitute breaches of the league's regulations K3 and K8.

United have been bewildered by Tottenham's actions and have submitted their own observations to the Premier League, detailing dialogue and written communication between David Gill, their chief executive, and Levy over the past 12 months. They make no secret of their interest in Berbatov, which Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed publicly, but maintain that they have acted properly since first registering their interest with Tottenham more than a year ago.
Tottenham are understood to be resigned to losing Berbatov, but, having rejected an official bid of £20.5 million from United last month, they maintain that they will not sell for less than £30 million. Berbatov, for his part, is determined to move to Old Trafford, having made clear his ambition to play Champions League football.

United have been linked with a bid to sign Thierry Henry, the former Arsenal forward, from Barcelona, but the most likely alternative to Berbatov this summer is Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the 25-year-old Ajax forward. Sources in Spain suggest United are interested in David Silva, the Valencia midfield player, but a deal is thought unlikely at present, with the 22-year-old widely expected to join Barcelona if he leaves Valencia.
