Dave Mackay

Hello

His profile in Wikipedia : Click here

As you know, I'm from Kuwait and i said in the past a few things about him here in the past, but i know more things now which could be interesting thread for some people about this man as one of Spurs greatest.

firstly, The info in Wiki reported he was Manager for Kuwait for 10 years, it was for Kuwaiti Club ( I'll name it latter ) , not Kuwait national team.

In Kuwait, The biggest rivalry is between two teams, Al-Arabi sporting club (Green) and Al-Qadesia sporting club (Yellow/Black) , this rivarly remain strong due to their very huge fans base in the country , The Kuwait football started in 60s and Al-Arabi dominated it in first years but not in full as Al-Qadesia in 70s . In this decade, A third rivarly team joined then called 'Al-Kuwait sporting club' looked more competitve team for Al-Qadesia than Al-Arabi ( Al-Kuwait as short name ) . ( Which mean it is important to show Al-Arabi name instead of only 'Kuwait' in wiki as there are a club known as Al-Kuwait which it is a bit smilar one to the country name or national team, this club played against Brazil last year in conversation national friendly looool, club v national team ) . It was no leagues titles for Al-Arabi in this decade, it was one of the hardest times for this biggest team in Kuwait ( as the most winner for competitions all time ) , they tried and worked to stop their rivals and were under pressure by their huge fan base.

In 1978, While Al-Arabi weren't league winners for long time, according to some people, they appointed Dave Mackay as Manager, he asked the club board to not get expect anythings during his first two years as he descripted these two years as ''transition period" , He get ride all of big names and promoted the youngesters U20 to first team alongside a few stars in all squad. He guided them to runners-up in his first season which made their fans and the board satisfied. The He won the League with them in his second year despite it was in the transition period.

Here is his full achievments:

Kuwaiti League
Winners(6) : 79/80 , 81/82 , 82/83 , 83/84 , 84/85 , 87/88
runners-up(3) : 78/89 , 80/81 , 86/87
Kuwait President Cup:
Winners(2) : 80 , 83

Arabic Gulf Cup for Clubs ( started in 83 between League winners in Arabic Gulf countries who is know as Persian Gulf in some maps ) :
winners(1) : 83
runners-up(1) : 84

He is still known as the best manager in history for Al-Arabi sporting club by their fans. Al-Arabi is still the most League winners despite they won it only four times since his departure until the end of season 2007/2008.

His trademark photo remains the one in which he grabbed Billy Bremner's shirt with his left hand and threatening him with his right fist.

Hope the club could have a blown-up one always in our dressing room to remind players that they need that steel to win.
