As I said in a previous post, whilst he does need to improve everyone should get a clean slate under a new manager and so far during pre-season he has been one of our better players and probably better than Davies. So far, albeit at an early stage, there are signs that Poch has had an effect/he has realised he needs to improve.

Let's hope he continues in that vein. I certainly don't think it's a bad thing to have two young fullbacks competing with each other.

I agree on the attitude front, and that has made him look worse than he is at times.

But it's clear he's not just an awful player. He was very good at Sunderland, and I think last season even when his defending was atrocious, there were times when he contributed positively going forwards.

If last season was all we'd ever seen of him then I'd agree that it would be strange, but if he sorts his attitude out I think he can still be a useful squad member.

Based on last season though, that could be a Peter Crouch sized 'if'.

He's a woeful tackler, which is pretty worrying for someone playing as a LB. His decision-making going forward is also abysmal. One of the few things I think he can do well on occasions is get a good cross in, but all of the above pales in comparison to his poor attitude. Short of a brain transplant I can't see him improving.

Thankfully thats just your opinion.

Danny needs to think more and run less, but apart from being a little impetuous at times, he will be fine. Give us some much needed competition for key areas

One of Rose's main problem is he never runs back.

He fulfills some nice HG quota rules, but he's fucking woeful in all areas. Can't defend, can't cross, poor positioning, lazy attitude, and weak willed.

Think everyone's overreacting a bit. We need two LB's as Benny is clearly off and from what I've seen I think Fryers future may lie at CB rather than LB.

The 5 year contract just maximises his value should he get the hump and want to leave in Jan.

There's a lot of talk about being more supportive of Rose. I'm willing to get behind him if he starts looking like he gives a sh*t and stops strolling back every time he loses the ball. He just seems to have an ego which far outstrips his ability and it's this attitude that makes him so unpopular, rather than his ability. Hopefully the MoPo effect will see a marked improvement on that front.

Yet another moment that makes me hate our fans on Twitter and Facebook. People whine about our lack of LB depth forcing our best defender out of position, and then whine when we rectify this problem by securing two youngish left backs for the foreseeable future. What exactly do these people want? Coentrao and Leighton Baines double swoop?

News flash: most teams in the league could do a lot fucking worse than Danny Rose for a squad player / backup. And who knows, he might even improve this season under a new manager who tends to get good performances out of aggressive fullbacks.

Absolutely disgusting reaction by our fans. He's not a world beater but come on, he's been at this club for 7 years, you'd think he fucked all your wives or something.

I'm not the guys biggest fan by any stretch but he's human and a Spurs player! Some of the comments especially on our official Facebook page announcement are a disgrace!

You can bet he or someone in and around the first team have seen the comments and let him know. Imagine walking out in front of 36,000 of your own fans thinking they all hate you! I'd like to see some of these people do the same and perform consistently!

And some people try and claim us the best fans in the world! Couple comments like I've seen with the flat atmosphere over the last few years at the Lane and you'd struggle to find any evidence of support!

Yup if this announcement proves anything, it's that at times it's very hard to think of yourself as sharing anything in common with some Spurs fans.

It would be a start if Poch can teach Rose to run back towards his own goal as quickly as he runs forward.

Now we have a solid, young first choise LB in Ben Davies and a lesser but young LB with room for improvment in Rose. How anyone can have any problems with this is unbelivable.

Send Fryers out on loan so he can hopefully improve and send that clown BAE packing.

This was probably why Jan hasn't signed his new contract yet - was waiting for us to secure 2 left-backs in the squad!!

I have to say I'm a little surprised, and now need to reset my mindset about Danny to where it was at the beginning of last season!

It's a very good point. Noone wants to see Jan have to play left back if Davies were to get injured. And personally I don't want to see Naughton there either.
Other than the people who think we should've gone for someone like Ashley Cole, it's makes sense.

Unfortunately this is sadly so Tottenham, there have been many Danny R's down the years and he won't be last.
Some followers act like children in the playground.

i wasn't happy with him last year, but hopefully with Davies pushing him to get better and Poch's training he'll be a better player

worse players than him have played for us and been supported by the fans, i think it's time we all gave him a second chance
