Danny Rose: I’m aware of criticism but I know Pochettino has faith in me

Danny Rose has been one of our most exasperating players of the last few years, and many a time have I found myself muttering his name under my breath! However, I believe he deserves our full support - though he still has a long way to go - but he is visibly improving game by game. I really like the cut of his jib whenever I've seen him interviewed as he seems a responsible, sincere and grounded young man. I loved the goal he scored against Chelsea as he slotted the ball home in a space no wider than the ball width, knowing he had Cahill on a bruising collision course with him. There is no doubt he is committed to the cause and I believe in time he will prove to be one of our best servants.

Couldn't ask for any more from him. He gives his all and although 'his all ' has areas that need improvement, he is aware of it working on addressing it.

And we have Ben. There are other positions we have to improve ahead of LB.

Unlike, say, Lennon and Bostock, Rose has worked hard to improve - and in the process has turned into a good, steady EPL LB (but yes he's still got his defensive flaws, but less of them than before)...
Interesting that he mentions Richards though: at 17 he was predicted to be a world class RB and a England regular for years to come.

We need a left back in the summer without doubt, and if we can get anywhere near the figures quoted for Rose last summer then we should be biting their hands off.

Lots of people seem to have seen improvement in him, as far as him going forward, I would probably agree, he can be impressive, but as a defender I just dont see it, he still panics and dives in too often, putting us under pressure with needless free kicks around our box.

A friend and fellow Spurs supporter asked why I had a good opinion about Rose. This article explains it fully.

Aside from being fast and the occasional goal, I've yet to see what really results from his frantic dashes upfield. Never seen a good cross yet.

I think he is fairing quite well, and I'd keep him for next season. I did think we should sell him when sunderland reportedly was ready to pay 10M (after his loan spell), but now I think he might as well stay. Far from our weakest link.

makes me laugh how some fans think it's so easy to just go out and get better than what we have, haven't you learnt anything over the past few windows? we went and spent £10m on "upgrading" rose in the summer and oh look, rose is still 1st choice(nothing against davies, i like both equally and they each offer something different).

As per a comment on Twitter regarding this article, let's not forget that initially he was a left winger, who has now been converted to be a left-back. He is NOT a natural LB and as such that is where his flaws are exposed. Not a bad player going forward, but defensively he can be as infuriating as Assou-Ekkotto.

His general fitness seems much improved, as does his attitude.

For me the jury's still out on Rose but fair's fair and his improvement should be noted.

Two things: it creates space for our other attackers and brings width; oh and er 3 assists and two goals. Including some awesome play in the Chelsea match, one that made my season. He's young and developing, hopefully he'll continue to flourish here at Spurs.

Imo he just needs to be aware he is a left back. You know... on the left. So if someone is standing over there in acres of space waiting to receive the ball then he should be a bit closer than the penalty spot.
Same with Walker but on the right.
Wingers have so much space when they receive the ball its untrue.
And every bugger on the pitch needs to stop ball watching and be aware of runners.
Edit- Should add I like him. I thought it was nuts playing him not Davies against Chelsea. Shows what I know. Thats why I've stopped second guessing Pochs team selection.
Although I'll still moan like fk when it goes Pete Tong lol.

Which side currently residing in the top four would Rose get a start at?

Who was the last Club he was loaned out to?

The truth about Rose's ability is in the answer to both questions.

well that's your opinion that he wouldn't start for a current top four side, not a fact. you could probably make the same claim for most of our players but football doesn't actually work that way? it's not an individual sport, one player may be better than another but that doesn't mean they're better for us.

and what has the last side he got loaned out to got to do with anything? is harry kane only as good as leicester city then? mason only good enough for swindon?

also, how easy do you think it is for spurs to go and buy a ready made "top four" left back, i'd love to hear your suggestions.

Southampton?
Rose is and was young when out on loan and was hardly going to go to a bigger club than us. We want them to play not sit on the bench when on loan.
He's going to get better. At his age not to get better would be unlikely imo.
Finished article? No. But I think we'd have to spend serious money to get someone better.

Strictly speaking Gaz, that's not right as it is a reflection of current status against his peers, not on his ability per se.

The fact that he is improving indicates that he has greater ability as there is potentially more to come.

A little pedantic maybe, but I believe we have yet to see the best of Rose. I also feel that he is progressing towards that quite well.

We spent 100 million a couple of seasons ago. Without checking our goals difference i would guess that it is as dire before the money was wasted as it has been since.

Perhaps (and i am NOT being personal) thirty million could have been better spent shoring up our defence rather than adding to the abundance of midfielders that we have? To suggest that it's not easy to find a better left back than a converted failed left winger is crazy stupid.
