Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is not willing to bend to Harry Kane’s demands over a new contract. It comes after a summer transfer window where the England international tried to leave for Manchester City.

Any new contract has to be earned and he has to repair a load of damage he caused in the Summer as well. At the moment he looks like he can barely put one foot in front of the other for us and he certainly doesn't deserve to be rewarded after all the disruption he caused with no hint of an apology. He'll more than likely kick off again at some point, whatever money he's on so I'm with Levy on this one. I'd guess he's demanding stupid money and an equally stupid release clause anyway.

I dont see any upside for the club in giving Kane a new contract. Basically all that means is a big pay rise for the player, without him actually making any real commtment to honour it, and the insertion of any kind of 'buy out clause' just weakens the clubs negotiating position when someone taps him up next summer.

I’m not in any way advocating a pay rise for HR but wondering how a £200M buy out clause would weaken the club’s negotiating position?

It's a bit stupid rejecting out of hand that a new contract for Harry would be a bad move for the club, since it would obviously depend on the contents of such contract.

Say, a new four year deal with a high release clause would most likely strengthen the clubs position.

No new contract talks should take place now, everyone involved should focus on delivering for the club. Contract talks should resume after a cooling-off period.

I think it very unlikely that Kane and his representatives would sign a contract that contained a buy out figure like that.

Whilst I agree with much of this you do have to ask the question why he wants out and that is because he can't win anything at the club.

This has been gone over and over again. He has taken part in three finals and two championship campaigns. How many more opportunities does he expect after he moves?

If he goes to one of the big clubs like city he get that opportunity annually and he will win things that won't happen at spurs hence why he wanted out you can't blame him.
He knows that under the clubs leadership spurs ambition level isn't great top four being the ceiling if we are lucky, so why would the England captain want to stay here to achieve what the club goalscoring record big deal.

I don't care what he does. The fact remains however that Spurs gave him the CL final. As a player you can't ask for more than that. A game he barely turned up for BTW. Like the two other finals he played in. So the fact he still hasn't won anything is as much on him as "the ambition of the club".

No spurs player turns up for finals ever in fact many of the big games we blow out in.
The ambition level of the club is set by the hierarchy and when they can get 60k mug punters in spending big money to finish probably mid table this year, then the ambition bar will continue to be set at low level with the boss laughing at all of us
