Dele is a positional conundrum. I think he probably needs to be one of the front 3 in that scenario, but on the side where you’d expect a lot of overlap to his outside so he can end up more central. He needs to be in and around the box.

No doubt Dele has to have a World Class season. He is too talented to fall by the wayside into mediocrity. Yes covers the lanes etc and scores the odd beauty. He needs to show some more substance as an attacking player (no not that substance)

No
Nothing special? He’s a fantastic player. Creative, quick feet, can find a pass in a packed defensive.... gets stuck in and can finish.
Include a clip if you can I have seen too much really looks to lay off simple balls a lot to me

From that showing, I would be thrilled if we signed Ceballos. Stylistically, he's more like Winks than Eriksen but he does show more attacking intent and composure in the attacking third than Winks. He was always calling for the ball and you could tell that each pass he delivered had purpose either from pulling the German CM's out of position and allow the Spanish attack to exploit the space. I think he would actually work very well with Dele ( if we deploy Dele behing the FWD) as Ceballos is clever enough to deliver that vital pass and Dele has a knack for making intelligent runs. If we're looking at Ceballos as the Eriksen replacement, it would definitely impact how our play develops. Something like below

Kane
Dele ------------ Son
------ Ceballos -----
Winks -- Ndombele

would be extremely versatile as DC does his fair share of defensive work and have no issue covering for TNd if he were to break forward from deep.

I always felt Dele was at his best up playing just off Kane with Eriksen just behind them.

I think when we have a front four of Son, Kane, Eriksen and Alli he kinda gets lost or comes too deep for the ball. Lucas only adds to that conundrum.

Going to be really interesting going forward to see how Alli is used and if he adapts to a new system.

Agreed. Whenever Dele's in the middle of the park, he slows play down, under hits passes and tries too many unnecessary flicks. Move him up towards the opposition goal and his attacking instincts take over and he's a joy to watch. Having Ndombele and potentially GLC/Ceballos to do the dedicated CM work should allow Dele to thrive and crank up his creative output for the team.

Dele had been playing with injuries plus Pochettinho tactically shifted his positioning play to cover the team.

Yeah I feel like Dele's game probably took the biggest hit due to our CM circumstances last season.
If we sort that area out this window we'll be able to keep him further up the pitch and get the Dele of old back.

Ceballos game is very different to Eriksen's from what I've seen, but the one striking similarity is that whenever he gets the ball he tries to do something decisive with it. He is capable of quick, accurate passes that can do a lot of damage and once the ball leaves his foot he's on the move and looking for it again. I don't however see where he fits in if we get LoCelso unless LoCelso can play at 10. Maybe Ceballos could do it but I've only ever seen him play deeper. He'd be a very good option to LoCelso though at a hugely reduced price if Betis hold out for his release clause price.

Ceballos hasn't done anything to account for the praise he is getting on here. He is not in the Real Madrid team one of the worst Madrid teams in the last 10-15 years and people are talking about 40-45 M fees. We have players in our development teams I'd rather give a chance to then him.

Ever seen him play or are you purely taking the 'doesn't get into Madrid team and is therefore not good enough' line?

That worst Madrid team still has Kroos, Modrić and Casemiro in their midfield. Plus, they lost Ronaldo, Zidane and basically were tired because of all that winning.

It's football. Wouldn't surprise me if Ceballos ends up at Celta Vigo/Schalke/Nice in two years time but it's equally possible that he will be the best playmaker in the Premier League (hopefully, for us) in his peak years.

I understand their fans think he's very promising so I don't know why would they sell him, and can't see us loaning him. Was there any itk or something reliable on this?

Didn’t you say that midfield wasn’t a priority because of Onomah and Skipp??

One of the best players in the European Championship winning Spanish U21 team. At the right price, he’d be an asset.

Neither is Bale. Would you turn him down too?

Which CM/AM members of our development squad have been one of the best players at two major U21 tournaments?

It is odd that he hasn’t gotten much time at RM, but it truly is just a messed up situation there with the turmoil/turnover and also Modric/Kroos/Isco in front of him.

I don’t think 35-40MM is crazy in today’s market for a player with that potential.
