What is it with a Spurs player who wanders over to take one of these specialist kicks and fail to clear the first defender?

Case in point was this evening when a spate of corners saw three different takers, ll of whom were unable to reach the danger area to present an opportunity on goal.

Whether this is deliberate, in that near post targetting represents a training ground regime, or, more likely, poor presentation with little thought.

i don't know the stats, but i would guess we are near the top of the "most ineffective from corners" category.

usually with bale and vdv on the pitch, we should have someone who can smash the corner in with curl and pace, but so often they just float on in - leaving me and others dissappointed.

I agree they could be better, tonight they were very poor.

It looks like we have very little by way of a plan. The only one I can think of is that Bale tries to nip in at the front post but apart from that we dont really look threatening.

I think its free kicks more than corners, we really are dire at them. So much so I always think its a waste of time when we get one.

I think its more the height that we have in the box.... No one really attacks the ball.

Bale has started to make late runs to the front post which has be pretty successful recently.

Tbh we probably don't practice them as much as some teams, and it shows. But then again we pass the ball better than most, and that doesn't just happen by luck either. I know which I would rather us spend more time on.

The clearing of the first defender is tricky to get right. You want to get it just above the first defender so you have an attacker running in to attack the near post behind but you don't want to over-cook it or the goalie will simply catch it without any fuss. Its not like you can put much pressure on a goalkeeper nowadays.

It does bug me that it looks like these millionaire footballers, perhaps the best I've ever seen at WHL can't get a corner past the first man but as long as we keep winning I don't care that much.

Just on impression I think we are taking more short corners these days
especially with Modric on the ball.
Last night there were a couple of occasions when we attacked the near post.
Bale and Defoe scored from near post Modric corners recently.

Unless we have Adebayor on the park, our front six are typically sub 6' nothing.

Maybe the tactic is for the likes of Kaboul and Bassong etc to draw in the big defenders with our team of littlies hovering and hoovering for the scraps off the incoming short ball

The only problem is when Modric, Bale, Adebayor et all are not in the team - we have what seems to be little success on the static kicking front.
