They can't/shouldn't change a law during the season. They should have to stew in their shit for the rest of the season.

Needs more than softening. I don’t see why we can’t bin it altogether, go back to deliberate or accidental and allow referees to actually make a decision based on their judgement.

If they want to use VAR to get a closer look at it again then fine.

Absolutely this, as much of a bollocks of a rule it is, and it is ruining the game completely.

Surely changing the rule after the season has started is giving others an unfair advantage?

I know what you mean, but it is such a shit rule that the sooner it’s changed the better regardless.

Its an absolute shit show either way, how they didn't fix it after least season is a joke in itself. Someone needs firing with these horrendous rules with no though of real life application to the game.

Says on The Guardian report that with this rule interpretation change that most handball penalties wouldn’t have happened this season - except Dier’s, which isn’t addressed at all, as his arm was above his head so still a penalty regardless of anything else

What’s to say that Spurs will not be caught out by this rule again and again. There is no balance to this argument.

The interpretation of the rules as they are are ruining the game. They must review and change it now.

Agree. Our style of trying to defend a narrow lead will mean we'll be screwed over by it more often than not.

I don't think that's our style as much as anyone else's in that exact circumstance but yeah teams going into the last moments of the match with a narrow lead or drawing the match are gonna suffer.

Yep. Clear message to attackers is to push defenders in the air and hope you can hit their arm. Dier’s interview was bang on - everyone just ignored the fact that he was pushed. Absolute cretins in charge

Well we can only hope it that happens the same fuss is kicked up from players, managers and media and they revise it yet again.

Do we know if the FA and PL are duty bound to accept these new handball laws?

Yep! I expect a United player to handle it in the box on Sunday then and it not be given as a pen

Yep, that will be the long and the short of it and wouldn't surprise me. In the same way that the harshness of the rules that bit us on the arse and saw us fail to qualify for the Champions League after finishing 4th the rules were amended.

Rules of football - Come up with a rule with unintended adverse consequences, wait for it to affect Spurs in the worst ways possible, and then change or soften said rules to ensure that no-one else suffers in the same way......

It's not just a ridiculous rule but it's also not consistent (and the simplicity of it should mean it really should be). Carroll headed it onto Dier's arm in an almost identical manner about a minute before the penalty incident and it wasn't given. The rule is so bad that I think we deserve the right to know the people who are responsible for suggesting and changing it. They should be put on trial. I'm more level-headed about this than I was after the game

Closing the stable door after the horse has bolted.

The fucking state of those who create and implement this sort of shite and not have to face scrutiny is tiresome.

Cool. Assuming Spurs will be awarded the two points we got penalised for.

I mean can't literally have one rule for us and not for the rest right

Even though he couldn't see where the ball was and hit him from behind, so clearly no intent.
