Rewatched Saturday's game from the moment Bissouma comes on. Here are some thoughts as I watched it:
Within the first few minutes of the substitution, Bissouma wins the ball on the halfway line but it breaks down. 30 seconds later Bentancur presses the Leicester LB wins it, gives it son and we go onto score. Hojbjerg was making a very good overlap for Son. For Bentancur to rob the left back of the ball shows the new position hes taken up and Hojbjerg having that engine is incredible.
Bentancur is very good btw , he ends up defending well with Royal in the RB channel and a few minutes later hes in the box, from a fast attack and has a decent shot saved. When I think about Xhaka who is now playing quite a bit further forward in that left 8 channel I do see opportunities to put him under pressure with Bentancur if he is in that RCM channel. Xhaka can be pressed and attacked, RB is so fluid and quick it could give us chances. He even makes a small overlapping run for Royal in the 83rd minute. Again hes in the Right Midfield slot from a great Harry Kane pass and is setting up Son with a good chance who fluffs it.
For Son's 3rd goal Bissouma wins the ball, gives it Hojbjerg in his own half and runs strongly past a beaten Ndidi and we score. Wonderful energy from PEH.
Game dies after that.
The general summation is I don't know if this is because Leicester are beaten after the third goal but they do seem to lose it a lot more in the middle third when Bissouma comes on. They don't get any penetration in the match again. Hojbjerg and Bentancur are animals, it can't be understated how fit these boys are.
I gave Conte 10% chance of playing 3-5-2 vs Arsenal but now after rewatching the last 20 minutes I am upgrading this to 15% Leicester were broken after the 4th goal but PEH and Bentancur could make a 3-5-2 work. Bissouma is interesting because he looks like he's drifting in the game without the ball, then he'll turn it on quickly and steal the ball. Also YB and RB make the back 3's life easier because they can take the ball under pressure.
It's still only 20 minutes vs a bad Leicester so you have to take this with a pinch of salt. We know 3-4-3 kind of works and 3-5-2 in a big game is a risk.
