They have a couple more players they can sell to help with FFP. Lewis’s hall is on a season long lone at Newcastle, with an obligation of twenty-eight mil at the end of the loan if he plays x number of games. There is also Ian Maatsen who is on loan at Dortmund. Sooner or later though this should hopefully bite them.
Hall's deal was structured in that way specifically because Newcastle needed to avoid paying the transfer fee during the current accounting period (due to their own PSR issues). So I'm not sure if that one can help Chelsea out for their 2023/24 calculation.

Hoijberg is staying now, also he's played in almost every game this season, whether people like it or not he's an important part of the squad. As an addition to this no one sees to be willing to put up the cash anyway.

Skipp however has not made the same impact and has rarely been ahead of PEH. If we get a big bid (30m) for Skipp, this could be an option.

I'd still prefer to let Chelsea burn though.

Why are Skipp and GLC 'likely gone in the Summer'? Gio is now happy here. I know he picks up a lot of injuries but he's a great squad option all the same. Skipp would walk over broken glass to stay here.

He COULD be a great squad option.

But he's not shown that since he's been here really. Granted down to injury.

I don't think the current transfer climate will see anyone paying close to 30m for Skipp. I like Skipp, don't get me wrong and actual see value in him staying with us for now but in the market as it is, and with clubs having an eye on FFP I don't see anyone having the financial means or motivation to spend that much.

Personally couldn’t care less about us helping Chelsea in any way. If Ange wants him and we find the deal agreeable then get him.

Shouldn’t read too much into Gallagher’s camp playing it down. He’s sure to hedge his bets with the fans by saying publicly he’s happy to stay even if privately he would consider us. This all points to us making a deadline day move IMO.

Isn’t the issue that he has 18m on his contract, so from his agent’s perspective having interested parties helps contract negotiations?

Just can’t see a Chelsea HG player, current captain with a cup final to play and a player the manager has publicly stated he wants to keep and play moving to Tottenham. Now or in the summer. Not for a fee we can agree.

Gus Poyet was the last player I can remember we signed for a fee from Chelsea for £3m. Since then, Carlo Cuddicini and Billy Gallas both singed on frees after their contracts expired.

This is one angle I haven't seen mentioned much - is there any talk of a new deal for Gallagher at Chelsea? It sounds like the opposite, that a new deal isn't forthcoming. It's hard to get a read on how these owners work, nothing really makes sense, but I would have thought that agreeing a new deal to protect the value of the player is something all clubs would consider in this scenario. Unless they really really do need to sell him now, and that immediate money is worth more to them than a higher fee in the future?

I couldn't disagree with this more.

PEH has played a lot, but he's only really been effective when he's come on as a sub.

Our record with him starting is atrocious and Friday's game was a good example of how he simply doesn't fit Ange's style of football.

He's a good player, great professional and capable enough to play for a top team, but not in our midfiel.

Skipp on the other hand has show more in the games he's played, in terms of Ange's style of football ability, than PEH. But he should be a squad rotation player, ideally behind: Maddison, Lo Celso, Bentancur, Sarr and Bissouma when fit, plus whoever we bring in to replace PEH. But he's HG and CT so that helps us out a lot.

I'd cut my losses on PEH right now, £15m is probably about what we should be aiming to get for him IMO.

Fully agree, was surprised skipp didn't start on Friday. I think his mobility and running would have helped us. Not hojbjergs worst game but he's just not good enough for us.

I think whether or not he’s “good enough for us” is a bit of a red herring. The point is he’s just a bad fit for the way Ange wants to play.

Hojbjerg is a great Jose type player with his positional intelligence and bravery, not mobile or comfortable enough on the ball for Ange’s style sadly.

Yeah, I think his all time peak here was that 2-0 home win v Man C in 2020. The match where we went top and Mourinho and Hojbjerg shared a really pumped celebration at the end. At the point it seemed like Hojbjerg was going to be Mourinho’s general on the pitch.

Yep. Nothing wrong him as a player. Just doesn't work naturally in the system we now play, for the team or in playing his own game effectively.

And also, he's been a consummate pro by the looks of it.

Chapeau, Pierre.

An alternative midfielder for us and a points deduction for Chelsea is a pretty compelling case against the deal
