I will almost put money down that they end up shifting him on a weird deal to saudi in the summer for 50 mil. he comes back to prem on loan a year following that, they give him a monster contract in saudi to bite the bullet for a year to help cook the books
Can’t see anyway that happens

We do want Connor and it wouldn’t shock me if spurs took that risk but I’ve been told right now it’s a stretch and too difficult to do.

Reports keep saying player is reluctant to leave. I just can’t see this working out this month, if ever.

Gallagher might have the right skill profile for Ange, but if the player is not keen on joining, I don’t think Ange will be pushing for him.

What I don't understand about the needing to move someone scenario is if he is available at the price we want we have space in the wage budget for him we should get him. If that means one of PEH or Skipp has to move out the squad (probably PEH) then so be it. We know PEH is off in the summer so let's be ruthless. We're in a strong position with Chelsea so let's not miss the window if Ange is set on him.

We don't know PEH is off in the summer at all, we tried to sell him last summer and we've tried to sell him this winter, he ain't going nowhere unless it suits him.
Also he's not available at the price we want.

With PEH staying I'm just really not fussed. Considering our current group of players the idea of Bergvall, even tho its very unlikely to happen, or another youth prospect like Wharton is much more appealing to me. I just don't think we need to be spending large on Connor. One of the few recent targets that even tho Ange wants im just not convinced by. Maybe if he was half the quoted price. Still of course if Ange wants him we should try and get a deal but Im not going to br too bothered if we miss out.

With hours to go, we've now reached that point of the transfer window where we are interested in a Chelsea player (I get that the interest did not start today). And how often have they, in the past, been willing to part with a player that may benefit us?

Not happening.

I'll admit - I would be shocked if PEH is still here at the end of the summer.

Whether we upgrade with Gallagher is a different question - but a player who is not a strong fit, and in the last year of his contract is very likely to be moved - even at a discounted price.

If Chelsea need to sell him to balance the FFP books, they will ideally have to do it in the next few days.

The transfer window opened June 14th this year, so you’d expect the same time this summer. The FFP deadline is June 30th. The Euros start June 14th. So good luck on their part trying to convince Gallagher to move teams in the middle of the euros.

Granted they could have a deal ready to go, but it’s a risky game for them doing that, if indeed they view him as a big part of keeping them in FFP check.

I don't understand Chelsea with this. If they 'need' to sell for FFP then at some point they would need to sell. Thinking about selling, talking about selling, leaking to the press that you are open to selling doesn't bring the money in. If they aren't offering him a new deal and willing to let him get to 12 months out then clearly they would like to sell, but do they not need to get on with it, either now or early in the summer?
I imagine that Chelsea are weighing up the costs and benefits of selling Gallagher now or in June. The PSR deadline is 30th June but the window will open on 14th June (I believe) so they aren't forced to sell him in the next few days.

It seems like if the right offer comes in they would sell him now, but if that offer doesn't exist they aren't going to flog him off at a lower rate. If we imagine that Spurs are offering £30m right now, and if £30m doesn't solve Chelsea's issues, then selling him would mean they still have to sell more players and now have a hole in their squad.

Gallagher will have less time left on his contract come June, but there may be more potential buyers, and the player himself may be more open to a move. They have a cup final in a few weeks, an ongoing FA Cup run, and the chance to qualify for Europe. All those things would help Chelsea in the long-term, so they will be factoring all of that in. It's a balancing act that their financial strategy has forced them into.
