And on MOTD, a great chance to square the ball at the death and it's the old tunnel vision we've come to know and love. Baros and JD! Way to go!

Some of Chelsea's defending was abysmal, truly. Let's hope they're that bad against us in three weeks' time.

The papers are reporting that defoe has only gone to pompey on loan. More shite reporting I am sure.

Wishful thinking on The Gay Damek's side, I reckon. They'll try anything to avoid the sticky financial mess they are in.

Well done Jermain...no doubt he will score a hatful for Pompey now and prove Spurs wrong-which I hope he does.

I've seen this as well. Sky Sports says it was a loan deal to get it through in time and will be finalised this coming week.

A club spokesman has now come out to clear up the situation, explaining that an initial loan arrangement was struck due to time constraints.

"The Defoe transfer was done as an initial loan because of time restraint.

"The full documents will be signed and registered this week and this is a standard method when you have little time."

Isn't this just a back door way of getting around the deadline? If so, why didn't Man City do this with Benjani?

BBC:

Jermain Defoe has been called into the England squad to face Switzerland on Wednesday as cover for injured striker Gabriel Agbonlahor.

Good for him.

i don't think he could have hoped for much more. he played (started), scored a goal, and was recalled to the england squad.

from the guardian:

"But the Italian coach told Defoe last night that, having moved to Portsmouth and scored on debut on Saturday, he has a role to play after all."

fair play to jermain...hope he does well in all games except agains us..

6 goals in 6 games now for Pompey!

And 9 goals in just 970 Premiership minutes this season, which by anybody's standards is outstanding.

yeah all he needed was a run of games, too bad he never got that under ramos...would have been a better option than a certain under performing irishman right about now
