But they are better if we get CL !!!

not knocking you fella(y)

if a player signs a 5yr contract because we are in the champions league for next season it means he has signed a 5yr contract without the guarantee that the other 4 seasons will be spent in the CL...??

do you get what i am saying? if players were signing 1yr deals i could understand why CL qualification would matter but they arent....

the fact is we have a great squad, we are financially strong, world class training facilities (from next season), huge fan base, London....oh & a new 60k stadium on the way....we are progressive & are always gonna be challenging so i really dont think CL qualification or not on sunday should change our targets...

just my opinion

All your points have some validity but Players from Europe aren't as sentimental as you and neither are their agents.

CL is the spotlight these players want to play in. CL is where the agents make their money.

People out of the UK aren't as bothered about the EPL as you may think. The real eyeballs are on CL.

Did a little research. If Chelsea win the CL, they and the 3 other English clubs go straight to the group stages (special dispensation for being holders, which is fair). If they lose, the 4th team from England will go in at the final qualification round.

Finally this is right!! Then a team from Belgium who would have automatically qualified has to go into the play offs due to their co-efficient. Seems harsh on Belgium really, not sure why they couldn't just put chelsea in the play offs.

Yeah I can't see how Chelsea could complain about play off's after being given a massive lifeline.

JJ, do you think we'll have a similar situation to last time (if we finish 4th) where players wanted to wait to see whether we get through the qualifying round before joining?

Well, at least Chelsea will be champions of something so I don't see how it's unfair. I'd rather have the reigning European champions in the competition than the team that came 4th in England or 2nd in Belgium.
