It’s interesting that itk’s and big journalists said we’d offered him a deal and thought we were favourites. Now he’s saying we didn’t really attempt to sign him.
Tactics from the club to make other clubs think we were interested in him... to not get our pants pulled down over other targets perhaps? Or maybe his agent leaking falsehoods to get Utd to up their offer so he and CE got a bigger payday!?

There's always an angle.

Just wow, watching his involvement in terrible first two goals against his new side Manchester United today. It's not starting well for him, did he just get greedy vs staying at Brentford...

Got done for the third goal too with Toney at the far post. But who in their right mind sets up with Eriksen marking their main aerial threat?

It's as if they signed him without giving any real thought as to where they were going to use him.

Keep in mind, that his last year at Spurs was patchy. Won‘t find a place in our starting eleven.

Nobody that second half of the season covered themselves in glory outside of the Champions League run.

I harbor no grudge towards him for going to United. The guy has a second chance at life and football at a high level. He'll likely have one more World Cup and if he can make as much money as possible to fully secure his family's future, then fair play. I'd do the same.

If we genuinely weren’t interested in him (which seems to be the case) then I simply don’t understand the vitriol against him on this site, particularly after what happened last summer. Why shouldn’t he sign for United over Brentford?

Mostly just sucks that his incredible story has him going to Manchester United, a place where joy goes to die and results in him being booed whilst 4-0 down. Really poor (if understandable) career decision imo.

Amazing isn't it, that a player who gave great service to Spurs and who conducts himself humbly and politely, is treated this way. I didn't want him back here purely because his career is on the wane, but why castigate the man for deciding to go to Utd instead of staying at Brentford, my local team by the way. Perhaps he should have asked Spurs fans for advice on what to do with his life, especially from those who enjoyed hearing some Brentford 'supporters' booing him.

Exactly right. And it’s not like Brentford wanted to help him out of the goodness of their hearts. They were self interested, so is he, so are we. That’s football. He hasn’t behaved in an unacceptable way. He signed a short term contract with Brentford and fulfilled it, end of story.

Just reflecting back on the Summer transfer business and how we are shaping up as a squad.
Just curious as to what people think.
Would Christian Eriksen have been a good and viable option for this squad over the next 3 years?

We are a completely different side when Bentacour is fit and moving the ball between our players so freely.
His composure and the quality of his passing is exceptional.
And the other players seem to be becoming better at playing zippy passes into the feet of our attackers.

With hindsight, do you think we made the right choice to pass on him? Or too early to tell?

I think he probably made the right decision in going to United. He’s started every game for them so far and seems like he’s a key part of ETHs plan.

We wouldn’t have been offering him that kind of guarantee. I don’t think a playmaker is key to the way we play and as a result he’d have been rotating in and out a lot more.

I'd have happily had him. I think when we're on top he could play in the midfield 2 and his playmaking ability means he could offer something in the final 3 as well.

Ultimately though, it appears Conte didn't want him which is the most important factor. Eriksen did a good job for Conte at Inter. So if despite this, he wasn't in Conte's plans. We have to see it as likely the right decision.

Yep. We impose morals onto footballers that just don't exist anywhere else in society.

Footballers are an easy target for politicians (who want to gain kudos from the unwashed millions) and for many other people, mainly because those in the top echelons of the game earn huge sums of money. Yet they are just ordinary young men who have been blessed with extraordinary talent and work very hard to achieve their dreams. On the whole they behave remarkably well and are level headed. for such young men and so many of them give of their time and money to help charitable causes. There is the added bonus that they bring immense pleasure to football fans throughout the world and give other youngsters, particularly those living in poverty stricken countries, something to aim for.

I never hear the same criticism of film stars.
