That said, Conte knows him and if he doesn't push hard for him then there's a reason, so no worries either way. No reason to get too upset about where he ends up.
Call me ungrateful, and I really like the business we have done and appreciate we have done it early, but so far we are still shopping in the midle of Lidl. When we need to be at least shopping at Sainsburys.
I hope that if we don't persue Eriksen, it is because Conte isn't that fussed, rather than losing out to Brentford or United.
After a really fast start to window, I'm hoping that we see more movement as players come back from holidays etc.

As always, your posts are very logical. Eriksen on a free and a competitive salary as a bench/part time starter option was a no-brainer. Eriksen for a significant fee and salary in that role for us just isn't with the other attacking options that we have on the table. I also agree that it is revisionist history to only remember the good that Eriksen provided while he was here. His last year and change was abysmal. He had 2 goals and 2 assists his final year with us and it is hard to forget the moaning over his free kicks and corners during that last part of his spell.

His stats since his last year at Spurs are not overwhelming by any means. He hasn't been THAT player over a sustained period since 2018-19, which is a lifetime ago now. Even the Brentford version which seemed very good in the highlights and what we saw, was not nearly as productive as he was in his prime...
2019-20 Spurs 2G 2A
2019-20 Inter 1G 2A
2020-21 Inter 3G 0A
2021-22 Brent 1G 4A

The “free” thing is a myth. There is still a fee albeit massively reduced from what we’d pay a club. It’s just going into the players pocket. Not a club.

I remember back when Davids signed. His wage was 50k but then we gave him a 5m fee to join. Making it 75k a week.

this free myth needs calling something else.

Daichi Kamada wants to transfer to a Premier League club this summer. Tottenham have been linked. Frankfurt want less than £10m as he approaches the end of his contract - Frankfurter Rundschau

Ok this would be a smart bit of business. Stood out a lot in the Kostic/Ndicka videos I watched...

2019/20 - Spurs - averaged a goal or assist ever 273 minutes. I.e 1 in 3 (still not bad, lots of sub appearances and had decided he was on the move).

2019/20 - Inter - averaged a goal or assist every 233 minutes. I.e 1 in 2.5 (pretty good considering he was coming to a new league).

2020/21 - Inter - averaged a goal or assist every 464 minutes. I.e 1 in 5 (not great but played much deeper in this system).

2021/22 - Brentford - averaged a goal or assist every 187 minutes. I.e 1 in 2 (pretty damn good).
Thanks for providing more detail, but nothing in those stats supports paying big money for him if that is what is being asked. That is the only point Trix was making and I agreed with.

I agree mate, we shouldn’t overpay for him.

Just don’t need to knock Eriksen down to make that point though. (Not aimed at you).

Call me deluded but every time I come here I hope to see some positive itk or news and am always disappointed lol. The man was world class for us. No question. If it was me he'd be my priority, as crazy as that may sound.

Not sure what's more confusing, the fact that you think we're shopping at Lidl when we've signed Perisic and Bissouma, and targeting the likes of Bastoni and Raphina. Or that you think Sainsburys is anything special and if we're using a shopping analogy then it's more M&S or Waitrose quality.

All gone quiet here, suspect there won't be any updates till next week. No ITK either apart from Trix, I do wonder if everyone is hearing the same things or if anyone's still confident.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, we have been linked with some big money transfers (Martinez, Bastoni etc) I hope we can get them over the line.
We are making the right noises. But as it stands the spend is minimal.

Not sure why it matters about spend, Perisic and Bissouma are top quality players and that's surely all that matters
Especially when you consider our more expensive signings have typically been poor and some of our best have been great deals
