What I don't understand is why on earth would he choose United

probably about 300 thousand reasons. ( and thats not a dig at him), lets be honest, even though hes been medically passed to play, whats to say that hes not gonna feel a twinge during a training session, have some tests & then be told " you have to quit now"

if i was him, and had that nagging at the back of my head, id do the same.

The thing that Conte might have questions about when talking to Hojbjerg was if Eriksen still has the legs to play in the type of insane pressing that he sometimes wants the team to do.
My thoughts exactly.

I think we will be playing a more higher energy game than last season. I don't think he fits that mold too well. No doubt he does have quality though. Like others have said in here, a good free addition however, there are better fits out there if we spend the money.

Meh, if he goes to United rather than return here than he hasn't got he affinity for this club some like to think he does.

If he really loved the club he'd return in a second. CL football, Conte, great facilities.

If he goes to United, toxic changing room, squad full of wasters, europa league. Sorry but wtf...

On the footballing side, I'd like him to return because he makes our squad stronger but he isn't a game changing signing, so really it's not a huge deal. As long as we sign an alternative creative midfielder, which we will.

I disagree with your last statement. We've always really struggled to put a squad together. The likes of City and Chelsea can pay high quality players huge amounts to convince them to join to be in the squad. Liverpool are currently good enough to attract the likes of Diaz knowing they can't guarantee him a 1st team place.

Eriksen has been excellent for Brentford this season. His passing range and ability to create is something we sorely lack. To compete at the level we want to we need around 18 first team players plus additional squad players.

I can't think of any better options than Eriksen who would realistically join us.

What bit do you disagree with? I said he makes our squad stronger. Someone who isn't going to be a regular starter isn't going to be a game changing signing though. Yes he probably is the best option for a CAM out there, especially as he is out of contract.

I agree with you we definitely do need a strong squad, which Eriksen would help give us, but it's not like it's Eriksen or nobody else.

I want him back, but what will be will be.

I can see why he's likely taking his time to think about it. I believe our ITKs in that we would be his preferred destination but if Man Utd have offered him an extra £100-200k a week then that certainly warrants pause for thought. That could be an extra £10-20m over a 2 year deal.

At the very least by sounding out Utd he may well get his preferred option (if it is us) to give him a bigger offer to seal the deal.

I didn’t know you were a lawyer, mate! I don’t think you have ever mentioned that before.

Would love Eriksen back. I just wonder who would be an alternative if he does go to United.
I've only mentioned it a couple of times today.

I disagree with you saying it's not game changing though that likely comes down to your definition of game changing.

If the signings of Richarlison, Perisic, the centre backs we're being linked with, Eriksen and others come off then I genuinely believe we are in place to put in a title challenge, all-be-it as 3rd favourites.

The amount of assists Eriksen can get for us could be the difference maker. None of the other players we're being linked with have his skilset and I don't see anyone else we could be linked with that has it while being happy to be a part of the squad and not need time to settle into the Prem.

Yeah, if anything Eriksen would literally be a game-changer.

His passing game from midfield would offer us something literally none of our other players can offer. Whether we're using him as a starter or off the bench, he would change games and give us an entirely different weapon in the midfield, rather than the usual like-for-like subs in CM or at wingback.

I'm sure there are other great players we could bring in to play that role, but Eriksen is probably the only one that wouldn't either be a punt on potential or demand a stupidly big transfer fee.

I think we'll be fine without him, but he could be the player that pushes us that extra 5 points up the table, or gets us through that tricky CL fixture with a moment of magic. He'd be a difference maker.

He's never had an affinity for the club and always saw us as a stepping stone to Madrid, Barca etc.

I think people have forgotten that he was willing to run his contract down and leave for nothing.

So was Kane, I don't think you can argue he has no affinity for Spurs. It's a matter of ambition and opportunity.

A player can have an affinity for a club and still want to play for the elite. They're not mutually exclusive, even a little bit.

Personally, I don't really give a shit if he has an affinity for the club. If he is happy here and can perform to the level he was for Brentford while not starting, then we've got an excellent signing.

I'm about to make a comparison that might seem insulting to Eriksen but I don't mean it in that way.

This deal reminds me, a little, of when we bought Niko Kranjcar (with a higher calibre of player obviously).

I always think Kranjcar was one of our smartest signings around that time. Cost just 2m, didn't start every game, but had a particular skillset and offered us a lot that others in the squad couldn't. Not key, but still very good (for a time) and the kind of signing that ultimately gives you a better squad.

I wouldn't put Eriksen as a top priority just like Kranjcar wouldn't have been. But Kranjcar did make a big difference at some key times, particularly in 09/10 when we made the CL for the first time. I'd expect Eriksen to have a similar contribution. So I'll be pretty annoyed if we miss out on this.

Out of all the players we've been seriously linked with or signed, I truly believe Eriksen and Perisic will / would make the biggest on-pitch impact next season.

Big players who create big moments in games. Genuine quality. Really want Eriksen to sign now. He has unfinished business here!

is it a pre-requisite for that company that all pundits have to be slowly turning into a potato? He's Brazil-ing in front of our very eyes.
Actually yes it is, it's a mandate from management, they want their listeners to identify with their pundits.
